Seems like this is a major fail for the dimwit.

(10,168 posts)My husband and I were puzzling over the same question yesterday. How can this be a "win" for Trump or the Republicans when the American public is almost universally against it?
What is does is PROVE that Citizen's United has allowed for politicians to be blackmailed by their big donors. The politicians that would NOT be re-elected without lots of "pay to play" cash. It's a win for Sheldon Adelson, the Koch brothers, and a few others who threatened to pull their financial support unless they got what they payed for.
So, essentially, we have no representation in Washington because they don't serve us. It's a win for their masters.

(54,410 posts)Trump has made it pretty clear that what the country wants is of no import to him. But he will save money under this bill, so he wins. The media, even the pro-Trump media, hasn't said the majority of Americans win (we don't). They just said he wins. And, after all, that's all he cares about. When they find out what has been done to them, those cheering coal miners will NOT be standing next to Trump again for THIS bill signing.

Especially if it is bad for anyone else!

(54,770 posts)their paychecks. They aren't going to see the bad things in this legislation and they are going to wonder what all the griping was about. The "compromise" does remove some of the House and Senate bill's most onerous aspects affecting the majority of people directly.
During those few years, it's going to be difficult to explain the bad parts of the tax plan to most people.
Trump and GOPers needed to pass some piece of major legislation, they got it at the risk of increasing the debt and having to cut important programs like Medicare and Medicaid to reign in the debt (they created). It's a joke, but most people won't look past the extra money in their paycheck.
[Note: I say this risking another hide for "spreading right wing talking points."]

(42,715 posts)Trump wanted the tax bill. He got the tax bill. That makes it a win for him. It's really not that complicated a concept.

(42,715 posts)The tax bill is a win for some people, not a win for most. And definitely a win for Trump.

(182,834 posts)and the media must have two sides for there to be a contest. This is why they keep the Republicans alive (they were almost completely OVER in 2006).
If this were to fail, Trump would almost be a lame duck before his first year was finished. The bill is unpopular and he is teetering on 30% approval himself which in a real world would signal his complete inability to govern.
He's a disaster but they need two sides in the fight.

(92,239 posts)itemize deduction find out that personal exemptions have been eliminated, and this so-called tax break, not only doesn't provide a tax cut to them, but in many cases they will be paying a lot more tax then they do now, I wonder how they will feel then.
In 2019, when the mandate goes away, along with the subsidies and expanded Medicaid, let's see how thrilled the idiots who voted for these assholes feel about it.
When the truth that tax breaks do NOT motivate companies to hire people is realized, and the deficit swings higher out of control, where will they be when they have to find where funding pay for the deficit comes from?
Tax breaks to corporations do NOT motivate companies to hire people, and never have. Demand for products and services is what motivates companies to hire people, not tax breaks
Sorry folks, but the country is getting exactly what it asked for, and a lot of people are going to be paying for it for a long time unless 2018 stops the insanity

(4,533 posts)Repubs dont work for those they represent. They work for their donors. Sometimes they worry about those who might vote in a primary challenging them as not extreme enough. But mostly? They are the paid help of donors.
