With Respect To Net Neutrality I Haven't Heard....

anyone say it in these terms yet - this whole effort is an economic move that certain companies/people are going to make a lot of money and that money will come from the pockets of the American People.

Future internet competition will be stifiled.

It's another give away to the big Corps and the rich. The Repugs are saying their tax scam will put money in the pockets of the American People and they will be taking right from those same pockets with what they are doing with this net neutrality.

This is the same thing they did with pay TV. Remember - you would be paying for TV but it would be commercial free. How did that work out for us?

there now are many many more choices of programming of all sorts available. Sure, you or I might not like most of it, but there are millions of people enjoying programming that never, ever would have been available had we remained in the pre cable video world.

And, yes, most of the non-broadcast cable networks have commercials. But there are commercial free channels like HBO, Showtime, etc. that offer some of the best programming -- and programming that you'd never see without cable.

Consider the economics for a moment: broadcast stations have always relied on ad revenues to pay for the content they license from studios, sports leagues, etc. If the channels that most directly compete with broadcast stations -- the ESPNs, TNTs, CNNs, etc. didn't have ads, they'd have to charge the cable operator more to cover their content acquisition costs and the costs to the customer would be even higher.

But then again, nothing is stopping you from cutting the cord and/or refusing to watch any channels that have advertising.
