Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsPeggy Noon on Morning Joe today: women should have more babies.
Her context was what she called a "population crisis." The she loudly commanded: Have more babies!
I gagged on my Raisin Bran and was pissed off all morning.
Then I vowed to let DUers know this a.m. Then I decided to calm down and take a shower...
I looked for the clip on Youtube but it wasn't there. If someone finds it, please post it (if you can stand it).

(63,912 posts)I guess the idea is that only by having more children who grow up to be taxpayers can we afford Medicare. It's the stupidest argument that I've ever seen, but it is used by RWingers to discourage abortions (and, of course, birth control).
That Peggy actually advances this argument on Morning Joe is really outrageous.

Mika and Joe should ban Peggy from their show, just as they rightfully banned Kellyann Conway...

Is it just me, or does this look alarmingly like a younger, blonde Sarah Palin?

(16,245 posts)We can solve the "population crisis" (it's not real) with immigration, if they are really worried about it (they are not).
Anyway, who wants to have kids when there is no social safety net for people, no good jobs with good pay and benefits and ridiculously expensive health care?

(6,929 posts)but you don't get health care for said children, child care for said children, and no more tax breaks for said children. Peggy Noon needs to crawl back into her bottle.

(5,229 posts)How come you only had ONE son? You're Irish Catholic afterall. Why not lots and lots of babies? Oh wait, guess that excellent education and high falutin career come first.

(54,408 posts)Welcome to the age of packaged Republicans. They are fed their lines, and all repeat them in some form for as long as they are told to. There doesn't appear to be a lot of original thinking in that party. They must know we notice, but as long as their own base does not, that is all that matters to them.

(60,010 posts)Reminds me of a saying from the long ago 70's:
If men could get pregnant, abortion would be a sacred act.

(10,014 posts)Dem John Delaney. She started the conversation with "so you support late term abortion" and it went downhill from there. Joe Scar, who was offsite, came in at the end and said something like "We'll have you back on when you won't face an inquisition of 3 Catholics on the panel".
No one defended that there is a reason women get late-term abortions, it allowed Noonan to spew right-wing lies.
Delaney's responses were generally good.

(63,912 posts)I thought that whole subject had been pretty much taken care of but I see it rising like a zombie once again. My daughter had developed a toxic condition (I think it was HELLP, affecting the liver) during her pregnancy. Luckily, it was late enough in her pregnancy that her baby was viable and she had a C section. My grandson was born just fine.
I just wish they had some medical people on the show to talk about the small number of later term abortions and why they are necessary and also how abortions are done much earlier in the first trimester.
Delaney's response was good but I don't find him all that exciting as a candidate at this point.
