Now that the FCC has shitcanned net neutrality, the internet is no longer trustworthy. So once again I say, no more e-commerce.
No more online bill-paying or convenient automatic payments. I want paper bills mailed to me.
No more email notifications from businesses. They will have to call or snail mail me.
No more online shopping. I will only use printed catalogs, or better still, shop in stores with concrete floors.
No more direct deposit. My employer will have to hand me a paper check.
Each of these things will create more expense for the businesses I deal with. So what.

(19,429 posts)My recollection is that IPv4 has a 6-bit Differentiated Services Code Point in the header. IPv6 has an 8-bit Traffic Class field in it's header.
How do you expect these to be used, and what will be the impact on customers?
Note that the obvious application is to distinguish between delay sensitive services such as voice conversations, and other services that are comparatively delay insensitive, such as sending ads to web browsers.
The two easy decisions that routers can make are to a) put delay sensitive packets at the head (rather than the tail) of the queue for an outgoing port, and b) protect packet loss sensitive services from packets being dropped when the queue memory overflows during traffic peaks (this is only partially successful because packets with errors will always be dropped anyways.)

(36,478 posts)We are a culture of convenience. People are not going to go back to paper bills & paychecks just to make a point. You're better off trying to keep your family & friends engaged & involved. If all of my family & friends who went to the Woman's March, had also called their reps about net neutrality, I don't know that it would have made a difference, but it would have made a statement.
