... Officials with Church World Service in Lancaster County said that Enriquez was in the middle of his renewal process, but they said his application got stuck in the mail.

Enriquez was pulled over during a traffic stop .. and .. taken to York County Prison on a federal detainer ...

On Thursday faith leaders, Enriquez’s attorney, a friend, and CWS officials ... told reporters that the case is alarming.

"It’s infuriating because we did everything right and he did everything right," Carrie Carranza, an Immigration Legal Counselor with CWS, said. "Now he’s being punished in the worst way, treated like a prisoner" ...

1. Miami Passes Resolution Urging Federal Government To Extend TPS

By ODALIS GARCIA • 15 HOURS AGO

Miami city commissioners unanimously passed a resolution on Thursday urging the federal government to extend Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitians and Central Americans and to find a permanent solution for Dreamers under DACA.

This resolution was sponsored by every commissioner and the mayor. The designation offers temporary U.S. residency to immigrants fleeing disasters and political instability in their homelands ...

"In a city like Miami, where more than half of our residents are from another country, we need to recognize that we’re an example to the rest of the country and our country should be an example for the rest of the world of how healthy immigration can build a society and not be a burden on it" ...

"If people want to come to this country, they should have the right to be law-abiding citizens trying to be productive members of the city and of this country. This city, its strength is in its inclusiveness and diversity" ...

2. DACA is an economic issue

... The emotional argument for allowing these young people to stay is compelling — they often know no country other than the United States. But there is also an economic component that economists and local and state officials are becoming increasingly concerned about.

Taxpayers have invested in these young people's growth and education. The DACA youth repay this by contributing to America by working, paying taxes and creating jobs.

So when the Trump administration announced on Sept. 5 that it would rescind DACA, leaving it to Congress to determine the Dreamers' fate, concerns arose among financial experts and economists across the country.

It's not just that U.S. taxpayers have invested in the education of hundreds of thousands of Dreamers. Also to be considered is what those Dreamers are contributing in return, and will be contributing in the future ...

3. San Jose bishop to Congress: Pass Dreamer legislation

Dec 2017

SAN JOSE — The bishop of the Diocese of San Jose joined a chorus of high-ranking religious officials Thursday to publicly support recipients of DACA, a federal program that provided temporary deportation protections to young, undocumented immigrant "Dreamers."

Bishop Patrick McGrath urged Dreamers to "keep dreaming" and Congress to pass legislation that protects Dreamers from deportation at a news conference at Most Holy Trinity Church.

"We talk about these people being sent home," he said afterward in an interview. "Actually, they're being banished from their home. They live here. This is their home" ...

4. Pass the DREAM Act now

... Of America’s 800,000 Dreamers, the 30,000 Dreamers who call New York City home contribute $1.9 billion to our city’s GDP. But stronger participation in the economy is just one of the many ways that Dreamers help make our city the greatest in the world. Dreamers are our family and our friends, community members and colleagues, who give back to their communities through public service, advocacy, contributing to the arts and culture, and raising the next generation of New Yorkers.

... the Trump administration .. placed .. this progress on the chopping block. In September, Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced that the federal government would end DACA, threatening the lives and livelihoods of Dreamers across the country. Most DACA recipients and DACA-eligible New Yorkers have lived in NYC for 13 years and came to the U.S. when they were about 9 years old. They went to school here and pay mortgages in our city, and many don’t even speak the language of the country of their parents. Dreamers are Americans. The Trump administration’s decision to end DACA is just another part of the president’s anti-immigrant agenda, which includes his Muslim ban, his deportation force and his border wall ...

5. All I Want for Christmas Is My Parents Not Be Deported
Fri Dec 15, 2017, 09:42 AM
Dec 2017

My name is Jasmine Lopez, I’m 11 years old, and I’m a U.S. citizen. My mom is a dreamer, and I love her so much, but I’m terrified that I could lose her soon. On December 22, three days before Christmas, her DACA status will expire, and she will be at risk of deportation. If Congress doesn't take action now, I may not have my mom with me for the holidays ...

For the past five years, DACA has changed our lives. My mom received a scholarship to go to college — her dream is to become a dentist and help people in need. She was also able to drive around and take me to school, and even to the beach ...

... Trump decided to end DACA for 800,000 young immigrants like my mother. Now, the only ones who can do something about it are our representatives in Congress. If they don’t pass the Dream Act this year for people like my mom, she could be deported during the holidays ...
