(60,010 posts)and then there is Paul Ryan's sudden yen to spend more time with family, etc.
2+2 seems makes sense.
so Trump is using Graham to send threats of starting a war with NK.
Trump really is the guy who would rather blow up the planet than to be seen as a loser.
Seriously.

(2,191 posts)I don't think Ryan will be tomorrow (though that would be *awesome*) but I do think he knows he won't make it until next year's election. And nor should he.

(5 posts)It's very true that few have suffered consequences of their actions - the Cheney admin, with all their corrupt dealings - but this is the first time that the Russians have gotten this close to our power source - Washington, D. C. - the White House.. This goes beyond corruption - this affects the security of our nation. This is the 21st century version of war and take-over.
CrispyQ
(36,478 posts)I don't know if most Americans realize that that is exactly what we're up against. There are a few serious reporters in the corporate media, telling the true story, but for the most part, media ownership wants to milk the Russian story for ratings, not to correct the course of the country. Like the CBS CEO said during the campaign, Trump may be bad for America, but he's great for ratings - great for CBS. That's paraphrased, but he did express that sentiment. That is also what we're up against - a capitalistic society that puts profit above everything else.
We are so fucked. And even if one thinks there is hope politically, a visit to the Environment & Energy forum will put a stake in that.
On that happy note, "Welcome to DU!"

(59,504 posts)unlike Nixon and in terms of the House impeaching, Clinton, might be because the former involved things done covertly in the name of the US government. Going after them, would confirm with no ambiguity, that the UNITED STATES did something wrong that in both cases violated international law. This hits the fiction - accepted by the mainstream on both sides - that the United States is a force for good in the world. ( This is not totally unique. I do not remember any UK declaration that they did things that were wrong in any of the countries that they controlled at different points. It has happened in countries that were defeated in war such as Germany and Japan. ) Where the US has apologized - it has been for things long ago - such as slavery.
What Nixon was pushed out for was NOT what he did in preventing LBJ's peace talks to succeed (the terms 5 years later were what LBJ could have gotten in 1968 ) meaning the blood of half the Americans and even more Vietnamese who died in that war should be blamed on Nixon interfering so he could win election. He was pushed out for obstructing justice on an investigation of actions done by CREEP, his aptly named re-election campaign. This did NOT reflect on the US in the world. The same could be said of the Clinton impeachment on issues nowhere near as significant as the Iran/Contra issues.
Note that there is a HUGE similarity between Nixon's and Trump's situation - though the underlying investigation that Trump is obstructing is for charges that are far more serious to Trump personally than the charges to CREEP. Where Watergate exposed a huge dirty tricks effort by Nixon allies and the use of the government to attack his "enemies", had he not joined the obstruction, it might have ended at whomever paid for and approved the breakin. In Trump's case, he was likely PERSONALLY involved in what was being investigated AND it involved Russia, the most powerful hostile opponent of the United States. In both cases, it was absolutely illegal political actions - not actions they ordered as President of the US to government employees.

(1,835 posts)Nothing that Mueller does will ever change the fact that Secretary Hillary Rodham Clinton, one of the greatest public servants this nation has had in it's history, was robbed of the Presidency that was rightfully hers in the greatest heist/scam/treason ever seen in American history. It should not be President Hatch at all. It should be President Clinton.

(47,133 posts)The 1% donates huge sums to the politicians, who get elected and then kick back the money with a big bonus to the 1%. To do so they use an intense and effective propaganda campaign to swindle American citizens. Draining the Treasury, cutting programs, etc.
Edit to add: And they could care less about public opinion. The elections are rigged.
And I use to think the 1% were American oligarchy, but now we know the 1% consists of foreign players as well.

(611 posts).....then the Democratic Party needs to have a national strategy of running against Trump in every Senate and House race in 2018. Trumps favorable ratings are down just above 32%, and if they drop below 30 he will, if history holds, have serious problems governing at all, because his supporters in Congress will begin to board the lifeboats leaving Trumptanic.
My own litmus test is my 86 year old father, a rabid Trumpeter. He has not said much lately so I cant judge his level of support, but if he bails I think Trump is done.
I just made up Trumptanic, but if no one did it yet, it would be a good political cartoon, all these supporters and White House staff jumping into the ocean as it sinks.

I think Mueller is purposely trying to get Trump to fire him, so that he can release the indictment against Trump. It's all a chess game and Mueller has been five moves ahead of Trump the whole time.
