The FCC just voted to repeal all existing net neutrality protections. They are giving giant ISPs like Verizon and Comcast the power to control what we can see and do online with new fees, throttling, and censorship. This will ruin the fundamentally open nature of the internet. This fight isnt over though, there is still a clear path to victory.
The organizations behind Battle For The Net are launching a new campaign to demand that Congress step in and restore net neutrality via Congressional Review Act (CRA). The CRA lets elected officials in Congress overrule actions taken by Federal agencies like the FCC. And its different from a normal bill because it only requires a simple majority in the Senate and House to pass.
snip
But it wont be easy, and it can only happen within 60 legislative days of the order going into effect.
Heres what everyone can do right now:
1. Text BATTLE to +1 424-363-4877 or go to BattleForTheNet.com to easily send a message to your lawmakers.
2. Share this article widely so everyone knows there is a way we can still win.

OP
If they passed it, the politics of veto might (might) be too heated for even Trump

(42,715 posts)2. But a CRA resolution can be vetoed
so, in reality, it would take a 2/3 majority in both the House and Senate to overturn today's decision. That's a very high bar.

even his most ignorant minions, if given enough time to understand how they are being screwed, might just voice demand for reversal of FCC.
Oh, and it can't be filibustered, so there is at least some chance of passage.

As has been the case in the past.

(102,297 posts)5. No one said it would be easy, but a two track approach seems best (court and Congress)

I'm reaching out to companies that send me electronic bills and statements.
I'm telling them because of the change impacting net neutrality, I want all future communications to be by mail. I'm going to make them pay more to do business.
