Maybe we, as a country, are in such bad shape that we NEED Joe Biden to run for President

I heard what he said on the View and thought to myself "these are such extraordinary time that perhaps we need him."

Yes, I have read and understood those DUers who list the reason(s) he should not consider a run, mainly on the age issue. But he is offering himself, quite selflessly IMO, as someone who might consider it. He said his family isn't ready to think about such a run but perhaps the family will be ready in 2020.

I believe him. And maybe we will need his calmness, his integrity, his caring for people for us not to dismiss his possible candidacy going forward. I think this man transcends his time. Perhaps we should ponder him as a possible candidate.

I agree with you but it is up to him, not up to us, whether or not to run in 2020.

I wish he wasn't so old. That is a factor but may not be determinative.

But we will do some pondering about him I'm sure.

We need to be sure the Dems and DNC have a fair primary process.

But my point is, if our republic rests on one person, especially.someone older, we are in a very weak position and he probably can't save us. Germany oncw reated on 92 year old Hindenburg. He wasn't up to the task.

His health had declined by then and he hid it from the public. He also hid the atom bomb project from Truman, making him ill prepared to make a big decision.

Some 80 year olds can do it, but it's not the way to bet.

I personally think the team of Biden/Kennedy would be AWESOME!!! That is now my dream ticket. Biden could act as a mentor in foreign policy to Kennedy and Kennedy would be in great standing/shape to accept the Pres. nomination the following cycle. Not to mention, Lord forbid, that anything were to happen to Biden, Kennedy would be a thoroughly competent and good person to step into his shoes.

I'm from Delaware, realize Joe's getting up there and that he'll only be with us for guidance and to work a campaign for at most another 2 or 3 presidential election cycles - if he cares to or is physically able to that long. We should try to learn what we can from his knowledge, depth of purpose, and wisdom while we can -- and that goes for both sides of the aisle. I doubt that I'll see another man as genuine as Biden, or as great a Presidential/VP duo as Obama/Biden, in my lifetime.

I can get past the plagiarism thing, the Anita Hill disrespect, and I don't even hold the Iraq war vote against him—but that bankruptcy bill made a deep, negative impact on ordinary people. As darn affable as he is, he will always be the senator from MBNA to me.

President Obama's shine benefits Biden to some degree (he was an excellent VP), but I do not think enough to carry him across the finish line.

The role Biden played in discrediting Anita Hill when he chaired the Senate Judiciary Committee would be a huge problem at this time, even though he has apologized since. And then there is the fact that he is approaching 76 (average age of death for men in the U.S.) and even if he is in great health it would likely deter many supporters.

Age, unless there are health problems (I.E. Dementia) related to age, are not an important factor for me.

The bigger problems for Mr. Biden are that he has said some fairly odd things throughout his career that could be used against him. As another poster said, he is also "handsy" which in this environment, would not reflect well. Finally, there was the whole Anita Hill / Clarence Thomas situation where he went after Hill and cut her off; again, given the shift, that might be used against Biden.

this past weekend. To answer another poster's question, I think that's where and when the talk here started to swirl around Biden. Another poster started a thread on the two MSNBC Headliner shows which featured Biden and then George Clooney. Kennedy's name came up in the thread here.

I hadn't given Biden much thought recently until I saw that show. He is a known quantity, good and bad, I guess for many, BUT he is also the face of the Obama administration and that may be very much needed to have someone like him be a known stabilizing factor for the world stage that is now seeing the United States lose considerable esteem with the Trump incompetence and insanity. Someone like Biden might be needed as a transitional presence, and leading a younger VP such as Kennedy to shape the future.

I hear what people are saying about the diversity and age, but a few Senators just sabotaged themselves for a long time to come with this Franken saga. No way will they be national material now, not for some time, if ever. They have diminished themselves and boxed themselves into a corner. That was a totally unnecessary move to gut Franken like that, and it will not be forgotten.
