In 2008 progressive radio help get Obama elected. There were numerous progressive radio across the nation in major markets and in some smaller markets. They were a remedy for hate radio. Denver had 760am. After Obama wan monied and GOP interests began buying up what stations existed and turned them into sports radio or religious radio or started featuring hate mongers and RW shows.
Now there are almost no stations in the US. Thousands of square miles of the US get only hate radio. Many TV stations are also owned by RW media. The only voice is on the internet and what progressive is left is streamed over the net. We have been getting a Chicago station her the net for the last few years.
The GOP wants all speech except RW speech eliminated from the country. They are also out to silence ALL progressive ideas in education.
We are facing a purge of everything American except what I believe is neoNazi propaganda. All other speech is fake language. The GOP wants to purge the country of Democrats, gays, nonreligious people, minorities, etc etc.
The GOP has zero tolerance for ANY opposition. It will only be a matter of time before the GOP sends SWAT teams to gas protesters.

(56,828 posts)WTIC AM 1080 in Hartford (a powerful 50,000 watt station) had a morning show that featured the radio equivalent of Morning Joe - a talkative RW host in Ray Dunaway and a friendly liberal leaning Diane Sawyer who generally played second fiddle to Ray. The highest rated show they had was afternoon drive time with Colin McEnroe, a witty and smart liberal, who is a long-time columnist for the Hartford Courant as well. On weekends, they had an African American newspaper columnist Stan Simpson on the air, and he was Democratic leaning as well. During the day, they had on local RW extremist Jim Vicevich and then Rush Limbaugh from noon to 3 - so, McEnroe was a great antidote to Rush from 3-6 each day.
However, after the election, Sawyer, McEnroe and Simpson were all canned. Dunaway's show became a solo show, and McEnroe was replaced by disgraced former Governor John Rowland, a conservative Republican who was recently out of jail.
so, the station dumped their most popular and best rated show with Colin McEnroe and replaced him with an ex-con conservative.
I have not listened to the station since.
