Despite All Protests Looks Like GOP Ready To Plunge Knife In The Heart Of US. A FU Moment.

The GOP is counting on the fact that they believe they can wreck the 2018 election. Otherwise what is the election commission is doing behind closed doors. They are also depending on their billionaire donors and a slanted MSM to protect them. It looks like this bill is destined to pass regardless of the economic terrorism it wreaks. They are counting on what they believe is short memory and ignorance of the public. Low support will probably not phase them on bit

Unless they can be shut down somehow it does not look good. It is not obvious that we can scare them out of this national sabotage. They are drunk with power.

Important work. I read this interview, as we'll as the Atlantic review cited therein.

I'm giving myself MacLean's book for Christmas and look forward to reading it.

Way too dread-inducing

I’m glad I don’t have kids, and fear for my nieces, nephew, and their children

At least they aren’t delusional cult followers, or craven, venal sociopaths, like the criminals currently in charge of all levels of the federal government, and a majority of state governments

With today’s repeal of NN, lord knows what lies ahead.....Mueller's, on a platter?

...it's that, over the course of a couple of days, they will be able to achieve pretty much their entire agenda.

-- Massive restructuring of the economy to direct wealth upwards? Check.
-- Creating permanent deficits that will require future "entitlement" cuts? Check.
-- Destroying Obamacare? Check.
-- Ending a free and open Internet? Check.

When you combine those with the theft of the SCOTUS seat, it becomes evident that, despite our gibes about the Trump administration being The Gang That Couldn't Shoot Straight, Trumpelthinskin and the Republicans will have enshrined virtually everything on their wish-list into law. Mission accomplished.

Yes, it may cause voters to take revenge in 2018 and 2020. But I'm sure the Republicans are confident that, however bad the backlash, they'll be able to hold on to at least one chamber of Congress or the Presidency. And that's all they need. With their philosophy of government set in stone, all they'll need is to be able to block any and all attempts to remedy the situation. Obstruct, obstruct, obstruct. And it'll work, because, after next week, the status-quo will be the Republican wet dream.

The only way we can prevent this...well, we can't prevent this. More like, the only way we can undo the damage that will be done to us by the end of the year is by taking back BOTH chambers of Congress AND the White House by 2020 (and, preferably, at least one Congressional chamber by next year, to prevent any further damage). But can we do it?

you said which is I think people forget all these republicans in the Senate and Congress are 1 percenters. What they are pushing through benefits them even if they are not re-elected. It's win win for them in any scenario.

So they are counting on strength of being able to campaign as party of tax cuts while bashing Dems over opposing their tax cuts. Economy should remain steady enough through 2020 to not be a negative for them and they can phase in their drastic cuts to social programs and safety net so that the impact is minimal until after 2020 elections.
