To be clear, one must be happy for the Doug Jones win. It tells the faithful that for a change the best person, a perceived Progressive can win. But the underlying numbers should scare.

We really are in bad trouble, but those who complain the most seem to have absolutely no idea just how bad. We at war for the survival of our democracy. The Democratic Party is ranged against the new billionaire classes that just grew up into a nation-eating monster, along with a resurgent fascism and religious extremism being embraced by many tends of millions, for control of our nation. Our democracy is destabilized and in grave danger of being broken.

Btw, it's become increasingly likely that Trump will order Mueller fired. If it happens, it will be like Germany rolling into Poland, but there's no guarantee democracy will win again.
