Thoughts about Doug Jones

OK, I’m going there.

Aside from being overjoyed by Doug Jones’s victory last night, I was struck by his charisma. For starters, he gave a such a moving acceptance speech... he came across so well. Really well. He’s a good speaker too. I can’t quite put my finger on exactly why. But he just “clicked”.

I dunno, but I couldn’t help but think that he might make an excellent future Democratic Presidential candidate.

Just thinking out loud. And yeah, I know early days ...

But ...

he will likely make alabamians proud even some of those who didnt vote for him. This is because he is very genuine, easy to relate to. This can change minds. Ray of light vs darkness. If he becomes more popular in the south then he could be the nominee that can win several southern states that no other dem can even dream of.

As U.S. Attorney for Alabama, he brought to justice two of the terrorists who blew up the Baptist Church in Birmingham in 1963. I'm sure that with the passage of time, these murderers thought they'd gotten away with it, and who could have blamed them? It was an old case, and this was Alabama. And then along came Jones, as the song goes.

I don't know what the future holds for Doug Jones, but I'll be very happy if, for the next three years, he demonstrates to the people of Alabama what a dedicated and capable public servant can do for them instead of to them.
