BREAKING NEWS: Roy Moore declared Senate winner as a result of Alabama's state Electoral College.

Former Alabama Supreme Court Justice Roy Moore has won a special election for his state's US Senate seat, defeating his Democratic opponent, former U.S. attorney Doug Jones.

The Republican Moore, who earned 48.4% of the popular vote to Jones' 49.9%, carried 42 of Alabama's 67 counties. While Jones' victories in Jefferson County (9 electoral votes) and Montgomery County (7 electoral votes) cut significantly into Moore's margin, Moore dominated in counties such as Cleburne, Lamar, Geneva, Clay, Winston and Fayette, picking up three electoral votes for each respective county (amongst others).

Moore is expected to be sworn into office in early January of next year.

Hillary beat Trump by 3 million votes. But lost the electoral college.

Democratic congressional candidates received more votes than Republicans but can't maintain the majority because of gerrymandering.

In the Senate, California with 40 million people has 2 votes. Wyoming with 600,000 residents has TWO VOTES.
