Republicans fear deep losses in 2018 elections

Republicans fear deep losses in 2018 elections
BY REID WILSON - 12/13/17 06:00 AM EST

CORONADO, Calif. — After years of strong gains in states across the country, Republicans now fear they stand to lose hundreds of state legislative seats in next year’s midterm elections if there is a significant voter backlash against President Trump.

Any losses would come at the worst time: Just ahead of the redistricting process that begins with the 2020 census.

Trump’s approval rating is mired in the mid-30s, well below any of his predecessors.

“People use midterm elections to stick it to the executive,” said Thad Kousser, a political scientist at the University of California, San Diego who studies state legislative politics. “Trump is the touchstone of American politics. You can’t vote against him in 2018, but you can vote against his party.”

2018 could, repeat could be a major turning point -- it may also be our last chance to save any remnant of democracy in this country.

Bet your life on that.

If we don't get the job done in 2018 it's over.

But Virginia, NJ, Alabama give me great hope that we can and will do it!

WE NEED TO CLAW BACK EVERY FUCKING SEAT!

Here in PA in 2018, we have a gubernatorial race where our Democratic Governor Tom Wolf is up for re-election. This week the damn state legislature is sending him what would amount to the most restrictive abortion bill anywhere in the U.S. that he plans to veto. THAT is why Wolf needs to be re-elected - to stop the madness AND have him there during the 2020 census.

One of the points of attack by the GOP. They are trying to destroy the Census.

I guess Trump is doing us a favor.
He is not capable of playing the game, to pretend he is a good guy.

They are in a bind.

They cannot help Mueller's investigation because many of them took Russian money too. But if they hang onto Trump it will be political suicide.

They are probably trying to find a way to get him out of the WH which does not expose more GOP criminal behavior.

They are going to have to find a way to get him to resign.
And I think he will do it, but for a hefty price.

That is where I think things are right now.
