Both parties will go scorched-earth on sex in 2018

The exposure of Roy Moore's sexual history easily caused a 10% swing from Republican to Democratic votes in a very red state.

There is hardly anything in politics that is this potent at moving the electorate.

Therefore, both parties will be doing background investigations on all the 2018 incumbents and candidates. There are about 500 Representatives, Senators, and Governors, so a quick preliminary check may cost about $50,000,000. Then the 100 or so most vulnerable candidates can be targeted for another $100,000,000. These amounts are well within the warchests of major superPACs.

Of course, once the above opposition research has been done, weaponizing the information effectively in the campaigns will take a lot more money, but that can be done by redirecting other campaign resources.

This is how you hand a false and defamatory allegation:

Sen. Chuck Schumer alerts police to alleged plot to smear him with sexual harassment claim

Politicians have big egos. You don't get to those offices by being a shrinking violet.

Big egos make people do arrogant and foolish things, especially when it comes to sex.

4. What probably swung the election for the Republicans in Alabama

was the fact that Roy Moore's victims were young girls, some even below the age of consent. Had his victims been of legal age I would not assume that the Republicans would have turned against him to the degree they did yesterday. This is the Republican Party we are talking about.

Doug Jones was a really great candidate for the Democrats and totally worthy of a victory. But let us be honest, had the Republicans run anyone else, Jones probably would not have won.

Jones has his work cut out for him to convince Alabama that he will be worthy of re-election. Alabama may go back to status quo next time and vote Republican. I truly hope that they at least give Doug Jones a chance to show them why he is the best man for the job.

Meanwhile you know that the Republicans will probably go back and redo their already restrictive voting law because too many black voters were allowed to vote in this election and they won't want a repeat of that. Democrats have to be prepared to fight for voter rights in Alabama and everywhere else.

5. The age of Moore's victims may have been a factor, but several other politicians have been ousted

And their victims were all adults as far as I know.
