The Watergate line wasnt pro-Nixon, it was populist acknowledgment that all politicians and politics are crooked to some degree, slimy, and that weve all done bad shit and shouldnt expect to elect saints. A reasonable claim, especially in the days before the full extent of Nixons crimes were realized commonly.
