The party must relentlessly fight voter suppression and gerrymandering.

On December 1, 1955, in Montgomery, Alabama, Parks refused to obey bus driver James F. Blake's order to give up her seat in the "colored section."

On Sunday, December 4, 1955, plans for the Montgomery Bus Boycott were announced at black churches in the area.

In December 1964, King and the SCLC joined forces with the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) in Selma, Alabama, where the SNCC had been working on voter registration for several months.

On 25 March 1965, Martin Luther King led thousands of nonviolent demonstrators to the steps of the capitol in Montgomery, Alabama.

During the 1965 march to Montgomery, Alabama, violence by state police and others against the peaceful marchers resulted in much publicity, making Alabama's racism visible nationwide.

The Montgomery Bus Boycott established King as a leader in the civil rights movement in Alabama.

Personally, I'm extremely grateful for their wisdom and look forward to other great election victories spearheaded by their ability to
see the real differences between candidates. Apparently, their "bullshi.t detectors" are working well.

Just like my Daddy did in WW2.

The battlefield has shifted but the hate is the same.

Our African American brothers and sisters not only came out, they endured intimidation and voter suppression measures to do it.

It is an act of bravery unheard of in modern times....

Thank you all.

I stand in awe of your courage.

Sen-Elect's background - http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/12/13/doug-jones-civil-rights-champion-beat-roy-moore-alabama/

Has some cred re: civil rights. That helps!

IMHO, goes to show that voters just cant be taking for granted - be we poor/working/middle class people of color OR whiteness - It's not enough to just be the "Not Moore" or the "Not Trump" or (what we've had Wisconsin lately) the "Not Walker."

We can do this, you know. If we take a hint from those men and especially those women who said “Oh HELL no!” we can begin to recover from this disaster.

Here’s to you, Democrats. Let’s fix this country.
