Alabama Turnout Could Be Much Higher Than Expected

https://politicalwire.com/2017/12/12/alabama-turnout-much-higher-expected/

"SNIP............

First Read: “New data provided to NBC News puts the universe of registered voters at 3,326,812 ahead of a hotly contested special Senate election on Tuesday in Alabama. Secretary of State John Merrill, a Republican, has already increased his turnout prediction from 18 to 20 percent last month now to upwards of 25 percent, reflecting the degree to which interest in the contest between Republican Roy Moore and Democrat Doug Jones locally is catching up with national attention.”

“But as local election officials prepared for polls to open Tuesday there were indications that turnout could be even higher still, approaching levels in some cases typically seen in midterm general elections. And neither party is willing to suggest what that says about the final outcome.”

Polling places in Alabama close at 8:00 pm ET.

I guess the other 75% are too busy to give a shit. Perhaps they would rather live in a dictatorship. Oh wait....

Small rural town, and almost 400 had voted by noon, in my precinct. For the size of my town and past elections, that's a lot of votes. A lot.

Parts of Birmingham, and the Univ. of Alabama at Tuscaloosa, and some of Huntsville ( the space/rocket town) are blue.
But knowing someone's party affiliation is not easy, it is not a casual conversation topic down here unless you know them well.

good news is....black turnout higher than at Obama's election, which is marvelous.

to give me the news. I'm so happy for the people who came out.

Know what you mean not about a casual topic. We moved from California to one of the most conservative districts in the nation, in Georgia. So on top of the usual we come in with a different accent and a name that isn't on ANY road, even a little dirt one.
