Merriam-Webster's word of the year for 2017: 'Feminism'

People looked up the meaning of feminism in record numbers this year after key events such as the Women's March on Washington and during the "Me Too" movement.

Runner-ups included "complicit" and "recuse."

Today, Merriam-Webster defines feminism as the "theory of the political, economic and social equality of the sexes" and "organized activities on behalf of women's rights and interests."
