Crow, who is releasing a song dedicated to Newtown victims, says country musicians are afraid of speaking about gun laws and losing their audience
Money and fear have kept country music artists from speaking out about gun laws, the nine-time Grammy Award-winner Sheryl Crow said, even after thousands of country fans were targeted in October in the deadliest mass shooting in modern American history.
You would think after Vegas we would see some leadership from our country community, Crow told the Guardian. But all I can say about that is if theres money involved, and fear, these conversations come to a screeching halt.
Theres no one that I know of in the popular country world that is willing to step out and really to take a stand on this, and thats really unfortunate.
I hope there will be people who find a way out of their fear, who stick up for humanity as opposed to sticking with their fanbase or the money that can come along with having those large crowds.
Crows new song, The Dreaming Kind, released on Monday, is a tribute to the 20 young children and six adults who were killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut five years ago.

(3,569 posts)On a morning show, promoting The Voice. A few days after the Vegas shooting. Others were on the panel and they were asked about the shootings. They had no trouble saying "we got to something about the guns". Blake on the other hand, stopped short when he said " we've got do deal with mental health, and video games" or something like that. Noticeably, right where everyone else would say "guns", he stopped short.. I was screaming at my TV, "say it fucker"' , but he didnt. You could tell he felt emasculated, by the gun manufacturers. You could see it in his eyes.

(6,021 posts)IIRC, Darius Rucker talked her into doing country music, and upon listening I thought, "There goes what's left of her career." The music was typical mainstream country drivel. I don't mind country leanings, old stuff, honkytonk or high-country-type stuff, but mainstream country is absolute garbage and most of the people who listen to it are absolute dolts.
I'm happy she finally dumped that shallow, stupid portion of the music world and went back to making real music again. The new album is actually very good. And of course I'm glad she doesn't subscribe to the blind allegiance and closed-mindedness typical of that genre.
