Lightweight Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, a total flunky for Chuck Schumer and someone who would come to my office begging for campaign contributions not so long ago (and would do anything for them), is now in the ring fighting against Trump. Very disloyal to Bill & Crooked-USED!

(40,168 posts)We are losing a very effective senator.
DemocratSinceBirth
(99,710 posts)What I don't understand is why the 37 other Democratic senators who joined her aren't similarly criticized. I saw a thread the other day rightfully lauding Cory Booker for campaigning for Doug Jones. He called for Franken's resignation shortly after Senator Gillibrand.
Bleacher Creature
(11,256 posts)She's the junior Senator from New York. The senior Senator is Chuck Schumer, who is also the Minority Leader and former chair of the DSCC. I'd be shocked if she didn't give Schumer a call in advance letting him know what she was about to do. In fact, more likely than not Schumer was orchestrating the whole thing and gave Gillibrand a high profile role in the whole ordeal. Remember, Schumer allegedly spoke by phone with Franken numerous times to ask him to step down.
But for some reason people here only feel comfortable attacking Gillibrand.
DemocratSinceBirth
(99,710 posts)I believe the Dems cleared the decks to go after Chump and Pedo Moore should he be elected. The recent focus on Chump's victims seems to bear me out. In another environment Franken likely survives. That is not to say, while he is not in the same class as miscreants like Moore and Trump, Franken's actions weren't disturbing.
If there was an investigation, the due process often discussed here, we would likely be where we are at now with proof that some of the incidents indeed occurring as Franken maintains, with him remembering them differently.

(28,795 posts)the wing nuts are going to go hard after that seat during the regular election
goes without saying anyway. they have unlimited resources, along unlimited disregard for the truth, which makes it much easier to run a campaign
they're even more transparent in their employment of the nazi/soviet propaganda techniques of old, after discovering just how easy it is to tell the most outlandish lies imaginable, and have them...work!
they're succeeding beyond their wildest dreams
look what they've done to the country in less than a year

Her rush to judgment makes her very dangerous in my eyes. I am not inclined to trade one despot for another.

(99,710 posts)If you think the junior senator from NY is a despot there is nothing I can do to disabuse you of that notion.

Trump is a monster but she is not the answer.

(37,748 posts)As she possesses no absolute power, in what regard specifically do you consider her a despot?
(Or is 'despot' simply a pejorative you keep in your pocket to use when accuracy is inconvenient?)
Egnever
(21,506 posts)and she would have plenty of power were she president.
Trading one for the other implies she would be taking that power. Pretty simple to figure out.

(58,785 posts)asked Sanders to resign?
That group, by the way, was lead by 13 female senators. WHO told yesterday's angry mob to focus all their passion and blame on Democrat MS. Senator Gillibrand, leaving no attention for her fellow "deplorable," MR. Senator Sanders?
RIP, Bernie Sanders.
Egnever
(21,506 posts)I am especially pissed at Schummer He is supposed to be the senate leader if that is an example of our leadership we are lost.

WaPo: Leading Senate Democrats call for ethics investigation into Al Franken
Nope, the leadership wanted to investigate to see if Franken should be supported or asked to return. 13 OTHER female senators asked Franken to just resign, and were joined by 19 OTHER male senators. Plus, several other senators of both sexes suggested he should consider resigning.
Egnever
(21,506 posts)He did the right thing in the beginning and then called Franken repeatedly to ask him to resign. His instincts were right in the beginning but then he turned around and went with the mob.
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)Today tens of millions of people who know who they are for and who against and have no need to question their beliefs will vote for Roy Moore.
Egnever
(21,506 posts)the two situations are completely different.
And should Moore get into office will you not be calling for an ethics investigation?

(36,926 posts)Kirsten has to do something to fix all the damage she's done to herself and her political ambitions.
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)Sanders and Gillibrand denounced Trump as a political maneuver, seeking political cover from the wildfire that sprang up on far left against Democrats.
At least Gillibrand did with angry fires scorching her political butt. I guess Sanders just saw her running and thought it was a good idea. These are his people, after all, or at least the ones he seeks to lead, but they're a bit out of his control right now.

(99,710 posts)When somebody makes an ambiguous statement, especially an insulting one, it's up to the listeners to draw any inference they want.
Trump suggested Kirsten Gillibrand would do anything for money. The logical inference is Trump is suggesting she would have sex for it.
They will say she was looking for a campaign donation. They won't say she was offering her body for it.

(4,238 posts)I'm sure she's thrilled that 45 is giving her the prestige she so desperately wants by picking a fight with her. Doesn't change the fact that she threw one of our brightest Senators under the bus, based on flimsy accusations, for her own political gain.
