The really rich have more money than they will ever be able to count. So, now the only way to feel any richer is to put more distance between them and the poor and middle class by stealing their money.

People can simply be overtaken by avarice and gluttony. No further explanation needed.

2. Now you have it. They want the contrast

and are not interested in raising the rest of us. What they want is to have more than most and for some of the rest of us to be happy being their devoted servants. Others not privileged to work in the big house can die.

3. I know this is nitpicking but

the .01% aren't rich, they are wealthy. Rich people have mansions. The wealthy have butlers who answer the front door in their mansions.

4. It's about the game to them

They want to best the other wealthy families in the world and get their name higher up on the 'high score list'. If that means cheating their workers and other unethical behavior then oh well.
