Alabama State Supreme Court just overturned ruling to preserve all ballots

BREAKING: We just got a call from attorneys John Brakey and Chris Sautter from #Alabama. The State Supreme Court, without a hearing, but on the pure "ex-parte" (i.e. private) complaint of the State, "stayed" — that is, OVERTURNED THIS MORNING’S RULING TO PRESERVE ALL BALLOTS!

Rulings like this one by right-winged Supreme & Lower Courts (Which fatso's packing with unqualified & RWNJ judges for LIFE) are the very reason I DON'T see Dems being able to vote thuglican bums out of office in 2018's mid-terms.

GOP-driven Gerrymandering, Congress not impeaching even with excellent evidence, voter cross-checking, expanded voter ID legislation, more voter-purging, Citizens United will likely be upheld by High & Lower RWNJ tRumputin-manufactured courts.

The Voting Rights Act/Bill will gutted COMPLETELY soon. And ruskie meddling into our elections never stopped and won't stop.

Our hope: Our Intel agencies taking action against fatso/GOP congress to save our country/democracy.

I'll leave that there.

The original United States, where only property-owning white males over 21 could vote? Where U.S. Senators were hand selected by those in seats of power in each state? Where slavery was legal?

Is it the America of the Gilded Age where the ceaseless influx of immigrants were viewed as an inexhaustible source for exploitation? Where workers had no rights, income equality was vast, health care nearly nonexistent, bigotry widely acceptable and infrastructure negligible?

Was it the America that stripped Japanese-Americans of all they owned and herded them into prison camps, much as had been done to Native Americans before them? Where African-Americans throughout the South lived under oppressive and dehumanizing Jim Crow laws, where they had every reason to fear night riders and whole communities turned out for impromptu family days at lynchings?

Is it the America of red scares and McCarthy's witch hunts? The America of cops who never pay for their violence on citizens? Is it the America of civil asset forfeiture?

The blanket statement "goodbye America" doesn't mean a whole lot as interpretations of what "America" means and stands for changes from person to person, year to year, era to era.

"doesn't mean a whole lot as interpretations of..."
More often than not, relevant context and nuance allows for accurate inference.

Ignoring (or simple ignorance of) context and redefining point simply to illustrate how clever we pretend to be allows for little to nothing... other than self-validation.

Glad I could serve as your target.

There's a lot to unpack in my previous post, most of which I won't bother to detail because it seems obvious you wouldn't care anyway.

Most of the scanners can be programmed to scan the entire ballot (rather than just the areas where write-in votes are written).

The question was whether to require that programming - since apparently most are set now only to image any write-in areas.

But this order has nothing to do with preserving ballots - it has to do with preserving images of ballots. Ballots themselves have to be preserved for 6 months under Alabama law, and 22 months under federal law.

the hope was to get to the ballots using the images

Why not just fight to view the actual paper ballots? Brakey explains: "You cannot get at the original ballots. They will not let you touch them. In order to get to them, you have to prove fraud first. And how are you going to prove fraud if you can't get to the ballots? That's the Catch-22. The ballot images are a tool to get us to the originals.
