Sanders Says Trump Policy Would Have Kept Out NYC Bomb Suspect

(Bloomberg) -- White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said that the suspect in Monday’s New York City bomb attack wouldn’t have entered the U.S. under President Donald Trump’s proposal to end immigration preferences for family members of U.S. residents.

“If his policy had been in place, then the attacker would not have come into the country,” Sanders said at her daily White House press briefing.

Shortly before Sanders began her briefing, Department of Homeland Security spokesman Tyler Houlton said in a Twitter post that the suspect was admitted to the U.S. from Bangladesh on a family immigrant visa in 2011.

The 27-year-old suspect, Akayed Ullah, was wearing a pipe bomb that exploded in New York’s Time Square subway station Monday morning, injuring himself and three others.
