Not a Single Day
Since Trump was installed in the White House, there has not been a single day that the news cycle hasn’t been focused on him – not on his accomplishments, or his policies, or his goals, but on his lies, his ignorance of domestic and global affairs, his inane tweets, and the growing evidence that he colluded with the Russians in order to be elected in the first place.
There has not been a single day when Trump has been praised for his insight, his leadership abilities, or his grasp of the challenges that face us as a nation.
There has not been a single day that yet another one of his lies has been disproven, that some ludicrous “tweet” hasn’t been scoffed at, that some senseless assertion has not been fact-checked and found to be baseless.
There has not been a single day that some group, some organization, or a trusted ally has not been insulted. There has not been a single day that legitimate journalists haven’t been labelled as “fake news”, or that our intelligence agencies haven’t been castigated for telling the truth.
There has not been a single day that Trump’s so-called “presidential” actions and statements have not included things like attacking Gold Star families, fabricating communications with world leaders that never happened, or singling himself out for praise that was never expressed by anyone other than himself.
There has not been a single day that Trump has achieved anything on behalf of hard-working Americans, has taken steps to protect the environment, or has shown any empathy for the victims of natural disasters or gun violence.
There has not been a single day that Trump’s professional excuse-makers have not had to “explain away” his lies, his obvious stupidity, and his inability to take responsibility for his own actions rather than blame someone else for things gone wrong. There has not been a single day that he has not taken credit for the accomplishments of others.
There has not been a single day that we have not been embarrassed by Trump’s buffoonery on the world stage, or by his cringe-worthy statements that exude racism, sexism, homophobia, Islamaphobia, and xenophobia.
There has not been a single day that we have not been humiliated by the fact that a self-proclaimed sexual predator occupies the highest office in the land, that a bigot was somehow elected to the Oval Office, that a self-serving narcissist has amply displayed his disdain for the position he holds and the people he swore to serve.
There has not been a single day that we have not witnessed our Constitution being trampled, and our democratic institutions being dismantled. There has not been a single day that we have not lived in fear for our neighbours and ourselves, especially the most vulnerable among us.
Not. A. Single. Day.
