James O'Keefe Donor Flees Over Failure to Disclose Criminal Record

Conservative provocateur James O’Keefe’s failure to disclose his criminal conviction to state regulators has resulted in the loss of a major donor to his group, Project Veritas. The Chisholm Foundation told The Daily Beast in an email Monday that it “recently learned that Project Veritas was de-registered as a charity in Mississippi… Irrespective of other possible concerns, the Chisholm Foundation will not be supporting Project Veritas in the future because it does not meet this basic standard.” The Laurel, Mississippi-based Chisholm Foundation has donated at least $136,000 to O’Keefe’s group since 2011, according to public tax filings. Mississippi de-registered Project Veritas after the group declared in filings with state regulators that none of its officers had been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor. In fact, O’Keefe pleaded guilty in 2010 to misdemeanor entry of government property under false pretenses. Project Veritas has been the subject of similar disciplinary action in other states, including Utah, North Carolina, and most recently Florida. New York, where the group is based, has also threatened to revoke its charity status.

Apparently the folks at the Chisholm Foundation were on board with everything else Project Veritas did. But lying to Mississippi about a felony conviction was what finally soured them. Not the pimp costume. Not the Bin Laden mask. Not the boat loaded with dildos. Not the attempted tampering with Sen. Landrieu's office phones. None of that bothered the Chisholm Foundation.

by family, and maybe this suggestion of not being respectable was a little more credible for coming from closer to home? Probably acquainted with people who lifted its license, or at most friends of friends.

They describe their goals and criteria for support of an organization...which, if they stuck to those goals and criteria, would have precluded them supporting O’Keefe’s trolling.
