Okay, I am going there. I really don't want wall to wall coverage of this small pipe bomb!

More people will die today because of the rethugs policies than from this pipe bomb.

School shootings and mass shootings that don't kill more then 50 people don't make the news these days. Not enough carnage I guess. Yet one dude with a small pipe bomb gets massive coverage all networks. That's insane!

Fear fear the colored type christian hating people are slaughtering normal white christians everywhere. NOT!

I want to see the 16 women who are getting ready to have a presser.

I completely agree with you. Challenging commute this morning, but I only arrived at work five minutes late. Could it have been worse? Sure. But what we see around us on a daily basis freaks me out a whole lot more.

Distraction! Distraction! Distraction!

Be prepared to see wall-to-wall media attention on this pipe bomb on CNN and most of MSNBC--not to mention all broadcast stations.

Horrible U.S. Media/Press coverage is why Republicans still get elected where, were this in any other 1st world country, they'd become extinct decades ago.

Watching Rhule, and at the time of typing this post it's 9:45'ish. She spent the first 22 minutes talking about this pipe bomb. Briefly like 10 mins tops on new orange man's working with the russians. Now back to the pipe bomb. Oh and now a presser.

The media is so owned by rich corporate oligarchs there is not even an attempt to cover it up any more. Remember how every segment was ended during the 2016 election "but what about Clinton, she has a trustworthy problem and emails." Same now. Zillions of women accuse many rethugs of sexual assault and we always hear at the end of the segment, "but what about the dems and their (insert your fave tag line here) problems?"

So when this presser is over, the news outlets will re-hash everything we know. Normally that would take 60seconds. But this is a "special thing" so it will take and hour to recap. And every show will recap.

Ugh!

Although, it's not all conspiracy. There are some at these networks that just love drama. And many others use this to further their careers. Then there is trump tv aka faux noise, no conspiracy needed, their goal is to represent white rethug folks.

There are some real journalists out there. Not enough IMHO.

Dramatic events, which include terror attacks whether successful or not, are news. Always have been. DUers who complain that the media is covering the pipe bomb attempt in New York would prefer that only stories they care about get covered. Although, if the same bomb, with the same impact, had gone off in, for example, Roy Moore's campaign headquarters, that's all they would want covered.

"How much news time is it worth?" is a valid and important question.

The headline from today could have read:
Man Would Have Killed People If He Could Have, But Didn't; No One Severely Injured

Reporting it is responsible; amplifying it directly feeds bigotry and xenophobia.

Part of the reason such acts occur is because of all the attention they get.

Terrorism has always been with us and will likely always be. The players may change, but it is an effective tactic if you want to instill fear and panic in people. The real story is in how we deal with it, how people react.

I think that if people decide the only way to deal with it is to turn the US into a police state, with armed soldiers on every corner, searching people, the terrorists will have won. I don't disagree with common-sense steps for prevention, but turning everyone into a suspect and causing people to fear their neighbors is not the way to do it.

(And Trump needs to stop inflaming the issue. Declaring Jerusalem the capital of Israel and moving the embassy- assuming that ever actually happens- is not going to bring peace).

If I were conspiracy-minded, I would think this was a set-up to prove that we need Trump's Muslim ban (never mind that most people who commit these sorts of crimes are literally just losers and are often not even from the countries in the ban).

government instilled fear. If you aren’t afraid, you aren’t a loyal American. Feel those shivers up your spine, the goose bumps on your arms, the hair raising on the back of your neck. You know disaster is but a careless, inattentive second away. See that person who doesn’t look like you? Listen to that oratory that ignites your indignation, the lying liars and their lying lies...do you hear it? See it? Smell it? It’s there, no, over there, wait,no, it’s there.....run, run for your life, it’s coming and you need to be afraid, very, very afraid.

This has been a public service message. In the event of a real emergency you will be directed to stick your head between your legs and kiss your ass goodbye. That is all.
