Complaint about two white men on ticket - I think that comment is ok, heres why

Discriminatory comments about the most powerful in our society unlikely to cause harm. Landlords are unlikely to deny me lodging. Legislatures are not likely to pass unfair laws restricting rights of the most powerful. Employers are unlikely to not hire whites. It is only those without power, minorities, who are likely to be harmed by our society. We need to worry about “invidious” discrimination, not discriminatory comments about those of us who have tons of power to protect our interests. About a hundred years ago the white farmers in my town ran everyone out of “China town.” No One is going to do harm to our white farmers, the economic and social backbone of my town. I was once at a Jewish wedding and a guy started telling me an anti goy joke. He then thought to ask “you’re a nice Jewish boy, right?” He felt terrible when I told him no, I really wanted him to tell me the joke, I bet it was funny as hell. I was not the least bit upset. Because no one if going to cause me harm.

about any ticket. To insist that every ticket be half some minority or other would help further institutionalize principles and practices promoting equality, but it would not be representative.

Not to say we shouldn't try, but to succeed emphasis needs to be both on ideology and quality of candidate and on race and ethnicity, but emphasis on quality of candidate.

Let's face it, roughly half of all groups are conservative and probably half in those groups would reject the idea that anyone not of their own group could represent them. Only some whites imagine "those others" all look alike. Minority conservatives, not surprisingly, sometimes promote discrimination against other groups. (Conservative personality rules no matter the skin color or ethnicity). In any case, those last will be unhappy about every ticket that isn't majority them, even if "them" is only 3% of the population.

And regarding two whites, let's throw in that 76% of Americans are white. That's still a reality.

Another figure that is sometimes used for white is 61%, not including ethnic white Hispanics. That can be a very useful and applicable figure for some situations, including this one.
But I lived most of my life in California and I've met few, or none, of those who did not consider themselves white, and like the rest of us feel a certain security with being white. Depending on issue, and person of course, they also identify with non-white Hispanics to various degrees.

"Black" PoC are about 13% of the population, no matter how many black talking heads are on cable. All other non-white and other minority groups are single-digit, many less than 1%. Which is a huge argument for choosing for the person above all. Good people represent everyone.
