Cop to woman who was just attacked by a police dog:

"Just at the wrong place at the wrong time, ma'am,"

A regular Saturday morning turned into a nightmare for a St. Paul woman as she took her garbage out and found herself being attacked by a police dog looking for a male burglary suspect, according to a federal lawsuit filed Wednesday.

Desiree Collins, 52, suffered multiple bites to her arm and one to her lower leg.

Right after it happened, Collins asked the officers, “What did I do?”

Nothing, said one. “Just at the wrong place at the wrong time, ma’am,” said another.

Collins’ attorney, Andrew Noel, said his client wants to make sure other innocent people aren’t similarly harmed.

“Part of the reason for the lawsuit is she says, ‘If this can happen to me, it can happen to anyone,’ ” Noel said. “She wants St. Paul to make the appropriate changes to makes sure it doesn’t happen again.”

Cop did not have the dog under control, so the dog wandered out of his sight and grabbed a random person. I don't know how this is supposed to work, but when I've seen K-9 units, the cops always keep the dogs near them and in line of sight.

He had to physically remove the dog from the woman, because dog didn't listen to "release" command.

therefore not under proper control. I am surprised the dog wouldn't release on command.

I've attended several K-9 competitions and occasionally a dog will go after the wrong person and sometimes even bite their handler. What the cop said was out of line though.

About the sleeve. It sounds bad and looks bad, but most of it is still play focused on the sleeve. Most of the dogs would not bite a sleeveless arm.

Every now and then, you see what they call a "civil" dog. They are not fighting the sleeve. They are fighting the man. Many of these dogs will come off the sleeve and are not good sport dogs.

Bottom line is they are serious about it and are looking to inflict damage. Most of these types of dogs end up in military or police work. They are not for 99% of people

the dog be put down. It can not be controlled by its handler and the handle be reassigned to regulare patrol.

I’m not a fan of cops or their dogs.
