Franked said he would be resigning in the next few weeks.
If I was Gov Dayton, I would tell Franken not to resign until January.
And I would keep silent about his replacement I was until good and ready. (No hurry. Not much will be done between the 22nd of Dec and whenever Congress reconvenes.)
And I would publicly start to interview several possible candidates to be Franken's replacement.
And I'd ask for in-state suggestions for that position.
And I would wait to see who wins next week's election in Alabama.
And, if it is Roy Moore, I would wait until the Republican Senate swore him in and seated him.
And, if the Senate did NOT immediately remove Moore from the Senate and/or face an ethics committee, I would make my choice known.
I would announce:
"After careful consideration and, considering the actions of the Republican Party and Republican members of the U.S. Senate, and wanting to make the best selection possible, I have decided to nominate as Minnesota Senator - Al Franken!"
And then sit back and watch the Reich-wingers do the only thing they can and often do - set themselves on fire in rage!
But that's just me. But I would do it. I swear on Jesus's tits I. Would. Do. This!

(3,077 posts)I am waiting to see what happens in my state. I feel so betrayed at how Senator Franken got the shaft.

(6,139 posts)we all know mcconnel wont allow any replacement and will delay until specia election of 2018. There is exactly zero chance the replacement plan will work. We are gonna be one dem senator less until 2018 when a threat of gop senator from MN is very real, trump almost won the state.
