Why are *some* Americans insulted by a tax proposal or fees?

Are people insulted that someone might propose additional funding that we may or may not need?

But please understand the specific issue I'm bringing up --it's not about supporting or opposing a tax increase.

It's the visceral reaction among some that a proposed tax increase is an INSULT to them.

The reaction I see sometimes is as if someone said their child was ugly.

I don't get this.

Someone wants to oppose a tax increase --I understand that.

But when someone says something akin to "how dare they", over even something such as a fee or some minor change in a toll, what gives???

Like Krugman said, They are convinced that their hurt feelings are the reason for the continuing recession.
