Conservative lawmakers met to discuss GOP chairmans ouster

Leaders of the conservative Republican Study Committee met last week and discussed their desire to oust Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen as Appropriations chairman after the New Jersey Republican voted against the GOP tax-reform bill, The Hill has learned.

Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.), a former Republican Study Committee (RSC) chairman who’s now the party’s chief vote-counter, participated in that discussion last Thursday, GOP sources said.

The very next morning, RSC Chairman Mark Walker (R-N.C.) and another RSC leader huddled with Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) in his office and informed him that it was the “consensus” of RSC leadership that Frelinghuysen needs to go. The RSC leaders cited Frelinghuysen’s “no” vote on the tax-cuts bill last month and his waffling over ObamaCare repeal earlier this year.
Frelinghuysen had initially told reporters he would oppose the American Health Care Act (AHCA), but he eventually voted for the repeal and replace legislation after some arm-twisting by leadership.

He's hesitating on the crazy ACA and tax law changes that they (GOP) are pushing so hard for, so perhaps there's hope???

It's well known here that he voted to repeal ACA to give Leonard Lance the opportunity to vote no.

They aren't fooling us. We wiped the floor with Republicans on the council's, school boards, etc etc. It wasn't just Murphy - we stole from the TEA Party playbook in November and took over the boroughs, towns, etc etc.

His district and Lance's are extremely gerrymandered.

Those who wish to oust him are simply doing the bidding of the people who voted for them.

Steve Scalise's voters probably think it's funny that folks in Frelinghuysen's district will lose their state and property tax deductions.

Rodney Frelinghuysen voted to keep his seat. His district is north of mine - and Leonard Lance's.

He voted with the knowledge that folks in NJ will take potshots at Confederate States that have been allowed to "win the peace" by voting for people like Murphy. 2018 in spite of that vote, is going to be a miserable uphill battle for Republican House members in NJ.

I *think* they floated this story to give him "I voted with my people" narrative in his race.

OP - you should cross post in the NJ Group.

I know he has district members involved in Indivisible/Action groups at DU. They need to know the "narrative" so they can attack him now.

ETA I cross posted in NJ Group for his district.
