https://www.space.com/38969-supermoon-trilogy-kicks-off-dec-3.htmlThe Dec. 3 full moon is the first of three consecutive supermoons, including a lunar eclipse. The other supermoons will happen on Jan. 1 and Jan. 31, 2018. You can watch Sunday's supermoon live online here, courtesy of the online astronomy service Slooh or directly from Slooh.com here.
If you only have time to catch one of them, be sure to check out the "extra-special" Jan. 31 supermoon, NASA said in a statement Friday (Dec. 1). The late January supermoon will take place during a total lunar eclipse visible from western North America, the Pacific and Eastern Asia. It will also be a blue moon, too. [Supermoon 2017 Guide: When and How to See It]
A supermoon occurs when the full moon is at the closest point of its orbit to the Earth, which is also called the perigee. That makes the moon look extra-close and extra bright up to 14 percent bigger and 30 percent brighter than a full moon at its furthest point from Earth, called the apogee.
Supermoon full moons will occur on Dec. 3, 2017,Jan. 1, 2018 and Jan. 31, 2018. The Jan. 31 supermoon will also be a blue moon and occur during a total lunar eclipse.

(269,067 posts)The kids were delighted - two little ones said they'd tell their teachers that they saw a supermoon - one is four and the other eight - so cute.
And the weather is gorgeous - cool and nice - yes I forgot the Con for a few minutes.

(12,393 posts)Different insurance on trailer ... still awaiting verdict. But at least I can live in it with only minor inconvenience. All told, so far my monetary loss that I wont be reimbursed for by either insurance or FEMA is about seven grand. The hardest part is not having hubby here to help make decisions, since he passed 4 months before Irma.
Thanks for asking. I do enjoy complaining, so you made my evening.

Its been a challenge. I do have wonderful support from family and friends, but DU has always been my favorite drinking hole... meaning that I have friends here who also enjoy discussions that I find interesting and enlightening. My family sometimes prefers to play ostrich.

(182 posts)I've been watching it the last couple nights. All I have to observe is binoculars but it's still pretty amazing! Last night was an unseasonably warm night, we built a big bonfire and the moonlight was glorious.
