If you want to know why Donald Trump retains the loyalty of his voter base, take a look at one anecdote from a new book co-authored by Corey Lewandowski, Trump's first campaign manager. The Washington Post reports:
In a section of the book written by Lewandowski, Trump is described as flying on his helicopter when he learns that [Paul] Manafort [Lewandowski's successor] has said Trump shouldnt be on television anymore, that he shouldnt be on the Sunday shows and that Manafort should appear instead. Trump was angrier than Lewandowski had ever seen him, ordering the pilot to lower the altitude so he could make a cellphone call.
Did you say I shouldnt be on TV on Sunday? Ill go on TV anytime I g--dam f---ing want and you wont say another f---ing word about me! Trump yelled at Manafort, according to Lewandowski. Tone it down? I wanna turn it up! ... Youre a political pro? Let me tell you something. Im a pro at life. Ive been around a time or two. I know guys like you, with your hair and skin...
It's the last bit that really explains Trump's appeal to America's white resentniks.
Youre a political pro? Let me tell you something. Im a pro at life. Ive been around a time or two.
That's the sound of every blue-collar guy who's ever expressed contempt for someone with a college education.
I know guys like you, with your hair and skin...
And that's class resentment bred of insecurity.

For my money, that's about the most succinct rendering of Trump's appeal (such as it is), and it's why the serfs continue to worship him.
He says the hateful, bigoted, ignorant, racist, misogynistic bullshit that's been percolating in their dull brains for years or decades, and in so doing he turns them from slack-jawed dumbasses to shareholders in the office of the president.
At least, that's how the idiot racist fuckheads see it. Trump doesn't give a shit about any of them.

(81,325 posts)"He tells it like it IS."
"He talks just like the guys at the bar."
"He talks like the average Joe."
I have heard that from so many reports featuring, and quoting, focus groups and man-on-the-street Q&As. Over and over. And I find myself thinking - "so you think one of those 'guys at the bar' is fit to be President? Would you really want one of THEM running the country? You'd be okay with that? Seriously?"
Then why not put Archie Bunker in a tanning booth and a suit, and then trotting him out as a candidate? That's about their speed, 'eh?

(6,930 posts)Pure ignorance, combined with racism and everything else you named. It is so sickening to me. I have heard more racist and misogynistic comments in the last year than in all my life. It is just so disheartening.

(14,155 posts)..... are tr-dump's daily playbook that he constantly acts out on a daily basis.
His crude and rude behavior are the personification of a testosterone driven macho male hyped up on steroids and unleashed to bully and insult anyone who is foolish enough cross tr-dump's path.
Nobody, I mean NOBODY, stands in or shares the lime light or spot light with "The Donald" - nobody could possibly compare or be equal to his greatness or worth.

(29,067 posts)[but there's some things I don't understand: That "hair and skin" comment seems very odd to me -- I can't understand what the "hair and skin" of Paul Manafort would mean to Trump, and here's why:
Paul Manafort is as white as Trump and probably just as rich..As far as I know, both come from similar backgrounds, and In addition, both were quite good looking in their younger years -- Manafort has clearly retained more of his looks than Trump, butTrump started out every bit as handsome as Manafort, and retained much of it, even as recently as, say, 10, 15 years ago, so I'm not getting
some big "chasm" between them that would make a basis for serious "envy" or whatever from Trump. In terms of hair and skin" or much of anything else. That said, you seem to see something I don't, so I'm very interested in your thoughts.

(17,984 posts)Years ago, when I would start discussing "rhetoric" in my English composition classes, I would ask my students how W managed to gain the support of the poor and lower middle classes. It was because he assumed the role of an average Joe, someone you could sit down and drink beer with. Never mind the fact that he was from a millionaire family, had gone to ivy league schools, and had basically lived a charmed life as a New England elite. His projected image of a good old boy from Texas convinced a lot of people that he was just like them.
tRump has managed to cultivate a similar image, one in which he built himself a real estate empire from the ground up with his own two hands. Of course this image is totally misleading, but the low information voters follow charismatic personalities rather than check backgrounds.
Remember in the months immediately after the election there were dozens of posts about "elitism" in the Democratic Party? Now how do you suppose Dems get stuck with that label when the GOP is truly the party of the elite? It's through the continuation of the narrative. Or rather, adding new narratives like this one, so that the GOP is represented by salt of the earth types who stand up to the elites.

(63,221 posts)I don't find him attractive, but compared to Trump, he's an Adonis. At least his hair and skin are remarkable superior to Trump's so I really don't know what the Dotard is talking about.
As far as the other point of your post goes, I would agree with you. I saw a post on Pinterest today that said "I am proud to be everything that the Liberals hate." That just pretty much summed it up for me. They stand for nothing positive, they hate us and as long as they can make us furious, they consider that a win. They are very sick and very stupid.

(4,306 posts)What about Trump's own skin and hair? Talk about clear signs of a life spent being pampered in the lap of luxury! Class resentment, my eye! He and his followers all exude the smoldering resentment and bursts of hot rage which come from the predator deprived of what it believes is its rightful prey.

(83,793 posts)And Trumps appetite seems to know no bounds when it comes to McDonalds, with a dinner order consisting of two Big Macs, two Fillet-O-Fish, and a chocolate malted.
snip//
Trumps fast-food diet is a theme. On Trump Force One there were four major food groups: McDonalds, Kentucky Fried Chicken, pizza and Diet Coke, the authors write.
The planes cupboards were stacked with Vienna Fingers, potato chips, pretzels and many packages of Oreos because Trump, a renowned germaphobe, would not eat from a previously opened package.
The book notes that the orchestrating and timing of Mr. Trumps meals was as important as any other aspect of his march to the presidency, and it describes the elaborate efforts that Lewandowski and other top aides went through to carefully time their delivery of hot fast food to Trumps plane as he was departing his rallies.

(15,540 posts)I don't give a rat's ass about the Deplorables. I don't care what makes them tick. I don't care to analyze why they are loyal to the Dump. They are a minority. I'm tired of people analyzing their every thought, of which they have very few worth knowing. I refuse to apology for my intellectualism and education. This country does NOT need deplorables to survive. We need to marginalize them.
