(90,775 posts)Neighbor boy (young man really - He was the son of a friend of hers.) that grew up around my family used to pay me a quarter per curse word I learned and then repeated back in front of my mother. Shorty enjoyed shocking my mother. The more curse words I could string together the more quarters I got. But I had to curse properly - at the right time, for the right reasons, and in the right manner. I couldn't just go home and say the word - I had to use it at the right moment.
My mom never really got on me about it since an "adult" was putting me up to it for the shock value.
I am a short person. Always have been. So bad words coming out of the mouth of a teeny tiny towhead was funny, I guess.
Well, until the novelty wore off. LMAO (as I became a teen and got really good at it)

(13,340 posts)My wife has traditionally frowned upon my liberal use of "sentence enhancers."
But the other day, I blurted out (for the thousandth time or so), "I can't fucking believe this fucking asshole is President!!!" Said that in front of my 15-year-old. I immediately apologized to my wife (knowing her preferences). Her reply?
"Oh never mind that. If anything calls for the use of foul language, that asshole does."
Election night, when the results were in, my GF said I need a cigarette and went outside to smoke. I was right behind her and said give me one of those. Hadn't smoked for 10 years.

(13,340 posts)1) Is foul language "reasonable?" No. It is emotional. But we're not in a reasonable situation. The GOP advances its positions almost entirely based on emotional arguments rather than facts. While we, as Democrats desire to govern with facts, it seems emotion rules the day in the electorate... at least in most "red" areas. I mean, is illegal immigration REALLY a big problem? No. Not even close, based on the actual evidence. But brown skinned people speaking another language SCARES Trump's core supporters, so he brings it up all the time. So no, while foul language isn't "reasonable," it IS an emotional outlet for those of use absolutely appalled by the mindset of anyone who could support that man.
2) I won't speak for their intelligence, but I WILL say that the Republicans are outcome-based thinkers. They base their decision on what they WISH the answer were, rather than what the evidence supports. This tax bill is a perfect example. EVERY credible study shows this bill is massively skewed to the wealthy and corporations and that many working and middle class people will pay MORE in taxes, but Republicans simply say they don't believe it because they WANT the answer to be that tax cuts pay for themselves (they don't) and that trickle down economics works (it doesn't).
3) Anyone I'd curse at I consider a lost cause. I think they are unlikely to waver in their support of Trump, no matter WHAT the evidence shows.... see "outcome-based" thinker above. It's not like I don't know some of these people. Most of my in-laws are these people, and I DO understand them. They've always been racist assholes, and that explains much of their vote. And they always blame problems in this country on minorities and the poor. They aren't likely to change.
4) Don't really know what that means. I think Democrats are superior BECUASE they (mostly) right, not the other way around. That's not to say Democrats never engage in emotional unsupported argument. We are people, and sometimes emotions get the best of us. But I think the tendency to champion the poor, minorities and the marginalized IS superior to selfishness, jingoism and xenophobia.

(7,968 posts)The fucking Republicans are the enemy of the people. They represent elite money and regressive corporations. Their orange baboon leader is simultaneously stupid and insane.
"Gosh, dang it" didn't even work for me in junior high. Much less now.
