8. Quote from NY Times report makes it sound like Ross wasn't totally off base:

"ABC said the confidant later clarified that Mr. Trump’s request to Mr. Flynn during the campaign had been to find ways to repair relations with Russia. The directive to contact Russian officials on topics that included working together against the Islamic State came after the election, the network said."

So, Flynn's confidant DID tell Ross that Trump directed Flynn during campaign to find ways to repair relations with Russia. Although the confidant did not specifically say Trump told Flynn to contact Russians, he did tell Flynn to find ways to repair relations with Russia.
