We made that mistake with Fitz.
The proper response right now is to take to the streets to protest the tax cuts for the wealthy and every other crime that has or will be committed by the traitors in our midst. However, it is easier to sit back and say "Wait until Mueller gets done with them."
What happens if Mueller accomplishes nothing. Where are we then?
News that Flynn has flipped does not relieve us of our civic responsibility. That said, when is the next March on Washington?

(94,581 posts)It may help energize people and bring them together, but I dont see any politician change policy or any voter change their opinion because of one.

(4,395 posts)Why not? Because people took to the streets and blockaded their offices and flooded their phone lines.
It's been working for the past 11 months and it will keep working.
We can't afford to sit on our backsides until 2018 when the Republicans will just steal the election again.

(1,751 posts)is not for the politicians. It is for the people. Motivate and GET OUT THE VOTE!!!!
Of course, the Civil Rights protests worked. So there's that. This has to be that kind of movement. Be prepared that the authoritarian response it got is the same one we will get. Keep protesting and marching.

(67,806 posts)The results of the last election are a direct result. Democrats unseating long time incumbents. Women ascendant. "Others" elected.
You're correct that no politicians are likely to change policy. That's why the solution - the real measure of the success of taking to the streets in MASSIVE numbers - is to change the politician instead.

...and as I said, marches are good for getting people energized; but people are already energized. Now is not the time for another march; its the time to plug into the political campaigns and IE groups to flip the House and Senate blue, as well as win the Statehouse and legislative seats, because thats the only way that tax policy, health care, judicial appointments and other Republican initiatives are going to be stopped.

Too many people are depending on us staying strong.
Not so concerned about me but am doing it for my childrena and grandson.
Not sure how old you are, but the 60's and 70's were not pleasant.
I only hope the Democrats stay strong and hold republicans accountable. We let Nixon and GW Bush/Cheney get away with murder, lterally.
We cannot do this with Trump. Republicans have to pay for their support of Trump and collusion with Russia.

(1,702 posts)The F'n MORON will defy all his handlers and rain down the pardons.....UNLESS one of those unsealed indictments has his name on it! And if it doesn't then NY AG will be very important for the true needed deserved punishment for this evil human being and his brood. Florida where there is equal money laundering jeopardy will never follow the leads with Pam Bondi (BJ Pam) as AG of the state.

But having protested all the way back to the Vietnam war and Nixon's "I've got nothing to hide", I never regretted it and always thought it helped.
Protests cannot be dismissed as "fake news"

(37,648 posts)The Repugs don't care, but it lets the masses of people know that they are not alone in their disgust and dismay, and gets them worked up more to DO something...like vote.
It also lets Washington know. It also lets history know. One way we know how keenly the Civil Rights era was felt is to look back at pics of the protests at the time. Same with the Vietnam War.

(14,565 posts)Not that attaches to Trump in a meaningful way.
The greatest benefit would be registration drives while Trump's approval rating is so low.
Otherwise the huge favorite is normalcy...an incumbent serving 4 years then being renominated.
