He's tweeting, and it could be admission to obstruction

I had to fire General Flynn because he lied to the Vice President and the FBI. He has pled guilty to those lies. It is a shame because his actions during the transition were lawful. There was nothing to hide!
- DJT

Oh my god, he just admitted to obstruction of justice. If Trump knew Flynn lied to the FBI when he asked Comey to let it go, then there is your case.
- Matthew Miller

...just couldn't resist commenting on Flynn.

Are you ADMITTING you knew Flynn had lied to the FBI when you asked Comey to back off Flynn???????????????????????????????????????????
- Walter Shaub

Wait, you knew Flynn LIED to the FBI when you asked the FBI to STOP the Flynn investigation? That's. Obstruction. Of. Justice.

This is a pretty substantial confession to essential knowledge elements of an obstruction of justice charge.
-Susan Hennessey

Correct me if I’m wrong, but the President appears to be saying that he knew that at the time that his National Security Advisor committed a felony?
-David S. Bernstein

If Trump is saying what it appears he’s saying, then Trump fired Flynn with the knowledge that Flynn had lied to the FBI and then he asked Comey the following day to let the investigation go.
-Kyle Griffin

THIS IS OBSTRUCTION OF JUSTICE. @POTUS now admits he KNEW Michael Flynn lied to the FBI. Yet Trump tried to influence or stop the FBI investigation on #Flynn.
-Ted Lieu

Feb. 14: Trump asks FBI Director Comey to let the investigation go
May 9: Comey is fired
May 11: Trump tells NBC he considered 'this Russia thing' before firing Comey

We all knew that Flynn had lied to the V.P. because Pence said on TV what Flynn had told him.

Trump has maintained that he asked for Flynn's resignation because he lied to the V.P., period. He did NOT say at the time that he fired him for lying to the FBI. That's a new statement he's making.

Sat Dec 2, 2017, 03:58 PM
Dec 2017

is that this is NOT an isolated incident. This is NOT one random comment in a universe of other things. There's a LOT of this stuff.

I am pleased to notice that, now, there are a few more voices piping up that mention "when you take it all up together," and other such comments. People are starting to connect the dots. It's not just one thing. It's A BUNCH of things. From and about and by Mike Flynn. And there's Manafort. And Gates. And Papadopulous, and Sessions, and Donnie Junior, and Jared, and Michael Cohen, and most if not ll of his Cabinet secretaries, and all these Russians who keep popping up in the stew pot. AND from trump himself starting with that Lester Holt interview - of HIM, in HIS own words. And then all the very public denials - of HIS. Taken all together, adding all this up, considering all these details that all seem to weave together, WHAT THE HELL ELSE COULD YOU CALL IT?

At the very LEAST, it's obstruction of justice.

And I love to see people starting to connect the dots, which all seem to lead to the same thing. For awhile, only Rachel Maddow did it, using her show as a platform. But now, she's no longer alone in that. It isn't a mass of people yet, but I'm seeing it more and more. And I'm seeing more relevant components being taken in. Like social media, which contributes tremendously to perception management on a mass public scale. And it's not just the manipulation and steering of public opinion toward an agenda. Prosecutors and defense lawyers can use it, too.

I saw, just today on MSNBC, a discussion about that, where various opinionaters explained the contribution of social media toward shaping and managing public opinion. The context was trump's tweeting admission of what looks like obstruction of justice. Social media has muscle! According to MSNBC legal analyst Danny Cevallos, "that's where criminals often make cases against themselves" - Danny Cevallos, MSNBC Legal Analyst. Slate's Dahlia Lithwick noted an increase in "judges dropping trump's tweets into footnotes..." Yep. Don't forget social media. Look what a role Facebook played last year. As the case is being made for impeachment for obstruction of justice, that element has to be taken in, too. It counts. And it matters.

and one other tweet by someone who says that the Trump tweet is an admission of obstruction of justice guilt.

It's not really.

But it's not necessary for that tweet to prove obstruction. There's plenty of ammo for Mueller to use for that, as far as the Comey firing. For one thing, no doubt Flynn is spilling his guts that HE TOLD TRUMP THAT HE'D LIED TO THE FBI. Now THAT would add to the obstruction case, I would think. But not this Trump tweet. IMO.

Secondly, "That's a new statement he's making." True but he still said it in his tweet this morning. So if he knew that at the time he fired Flynn that raises all kinds of questions.

She alluded to information she couldn't reveal in her testimony in May. Flynn was interviewed by the FBI on jan 24 According to this timeline, the FBI briefed on Jan 25 and on Jan 26 she spoke to McGahn.
http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/features/sally-yates-provided-a-helpful-timeline-of-the-mike-flynn-saga-w481357

We don't know all the details of those conversations, but it seems likely she did know that Flynn lied to the FBI at that point and told Trump about it. We also don't know what McGahn told Trump, but I bet Mueller knows.

59. No. Not the FBI.
Sat Dec 2, 2017, 09:00 PM
Dec 2017
In addition to misleading the American people, Yates said she told McGahn that she and her colleagues at the Justice Department were particularly concerned the Russians were aware that Flynn had misled the vice president and other officials about the conversations, and that they could potentially use that information as blackmail against him. "Finally, we told them that we were giving them all of this information so that they could take action, the action that they deemed appropriate," Yates said.

Yates' info was that he'd lied to the public, to Pence "and other officials." FBI agents are not "officials." There was nothing to indicate she was informing the W.H. that Flynn had lied to the FBI. It is unlikely she would have done that. The thing that made Flynn compromised was NOT what he told the FBI, since the Russians wouldn't know that. It was what he told the public and the V.P. THAT'S what made him compromised.

Thank you so much!

Does anyone personally know any Republican voter(s) who is/are following any of this?

This appeared in the Washington Post just yesterday...

"... despite the expanding probe, 59 percent of white Catholics — a group that Trump won in the 2016 election — don't believe that the president committed a crime in connection with possible Russian attempt to influence the election. That number is close to the percentage of white Catholics who voted for Trump in 2016 — 60 percent, according to the Pew Research Center.
...
The most important religious demographic in Trump’s base — white evangelicals — have made up their minds. Seven in 10 white evangelicals do not believe there is clear evidence of Russia’s involvement in the 2016 presidential election, according to the Public Religion Research Institute.

And the group is overwhelmingly more likely to believe in Trump’s innocence in the Russia probe. Nearly 8 in 10 — 79 percent — of white evangelicals believe it is unlikely that Trump committed a crime.
"
https://a.msn.com/r/2/BBG38rJ?m=en-us

As another DUer recently said, "the RW's problem is religion." Well, it seems there's a connection.
Next question is: Will this Congress impeach him since their base constituents do not think Trump is guilty of any crimes?
