I talked to a Trump voter yesterday about Flynn. He said it was no big deal. Trump will be president for 8 years. Reality is going to kick his ass.

The really smart Trump voters are the rich cynics who know he’s a sleazy buffoon but want their tax cuts. They got what they wanted and are happy. (I have a relative or two in that camp. What exercises those people is the tax rate they feel soaks them unfairly. They’re pretty much indifferent to most other political concerns.)

The remaning majority of Trump voters will largely blame Obama and say the Obama economy forced the GOP do what it did.

Some will acknowledge the GOP screwed then, shrug, say “politicians will always play to their wealthy donors. They’re bought and sold...”, and keep voting Republican, insisting that they’re at least better than the Democrats who want to sell the country out to the Saudis (or the pedophile rings, or the Blacks and the Mexicans, or whoever they hate the most that day.)

A tiny few, mostly educated middle class Blue state Trump supporters, may be angry enough to sit out the next election or two, but they’ll be back as soon as the GOP produces another slick crooner selling the same snake oil - debt-financed cuts benefiting the rich mingled with “populist” demonization of the ‘other’ - the ‘other’ being whatever non-White group or segment of the young and educated classes can get most easily blamed for stuff at the moment.

Reality does not hit Trump voters in the face. They will be financially devastated by Republican policies pushed by Trump, but because Fox News and other rightwing outlets exist and because something like 75% or more of right wingers get their information from only one source, they will be told the rightwing lies that are not reality, and they will believe them.

They will blame the Democratic Party, Immigrants, Women, Gays, Black people, and any other number of source besides the people who actually did this to them.

Sorry to be pessimistic, but that is the new reality. I have family members who continuously spout talking points and they come from 2 or 3 sources, always. Anything other than that is a "liberal" outlet and they are told repeatedly, that they are being lied to by the Liberal Mainstream Media.
