This is the current playbook. There are automatic spending cuts triggered by this tax cut, including Medicare.
What the GOP is going to do is propose some horrible "Medicare reform" that puts seniors into prison colonies, and they are going to try to sell it under the guise of "saving" Medicare from the automatic cuts that their own tax bill triggers. And then when the Democrats don't go along with the prison-colony-Medicare thing, they are going to blame the Dems for blocking "Medicare reform" and the ensuing automatically triggered cuts.
And Trump voters are going to believe them.

(47,481 posts)the trick will be to personalize it. If Jack Smith is the incumbent Republican congressman from a small town in, say Kentucky, and Bob James is a Democrat running against him, Bob should visit coffee shops, senior housing and point the finger directly at Jack Smith. You don't have enough disability payments? Food stamps? It is Jack Smith's fault.
Our problem has always been that we talked in generalities, in policies, at high grade levels. We need to be specific and to point the blames directly at incumbents.

That makes no sense.

(17,442 posts)I've heard similar stories from people I know about their parent having to own no significant assets in order to have medicaid pay for nursing home care. Medicare limits the number of days per year in a nursing home as we discovered after my mother's stroke.
I'm no expert on this.

(10,178 posts)the topic was was about Medicare cuts in the new tax plan.
Medicaid has required elimination of assets for many years-----has nothing to do with this new tax bill.
Each state has different requirements,though.

(13,905 posts)The party in power is gonna have to raise taxes.. Just like Reagan's "trickle down" had to raise taxes after his tax cut.. It does not work and never has..
But after all this is all in their plan.. To make ends meet they will cut social benefits even more.. That's what their corporate handlers told them to do..
First gerrymander voting districts. Then cut democratic voters from the voting rolls, Get a majority of the house and senate in as republicans, implement a massive tax plan for the rich and then when it can't be paid for, gut social programs... uggh......
