It is time to exercise our rights to peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
We can make such a sound as the whole world will hear us.
Party leaders do you hear us?

(63,868 posts)organizations such as Move On, geez I can't think right now to upset, will begin to organize and get people out there. We need to be like the Europeans with massive amounts of people in the streets, just sayin.

(856 posts)Totally agree bdamomma!!! American voices need to be heard & the shameful manner this immoral budget was pushed thru was illegal. Ryan & McConnell need to be held accountable.

(16,169 posts)they'll be going home for xmas in short order. It won't make a difference when they are scattered and hiding with their masters over a bowl of peon stew.

(31,261 posts)Republicans have shown that they don't give a shit about street protests and public opinion when they have the votes.

(9,287 posts)Contained in your statement is the belief that protests change nothing. To that I will point you to the civil rights movement and the anti Vietnam war movement.
Secondly protests in the tea party movement have been used as a guidepost for us by indivisible groups (I am in one).
I think the impact of local involvement in the Democratic Party was spurred on by the Womens March.
Third,I didnt suggest that we only protest. Frankly I dont where you got that from. Protests must work in conjunction with get out the vote and support of our progressive values. This is called multi tasking. We can and should protest and vote and volunteer for our Democratic Party. We should also protest to let our Party know we stand behind them in their fight against this ruthless tyranny.

Back in the bush era when the news never showed up, you would be right. But now, the news cover every march, and calculate participation totals, and that does have an impact on legislators.
It may also help gotv. Voters need emotional reasons to go to the polls, and we can inspire each other.
It sure won't help if no one does anything.

(33,584 posts)they just passed a bill which 14% of the public approved of it.
They just don't care. They have enough Red and gerrymandered States to hold on while they get their rich overlords everything they want.
They don't give a shit about marches or voters.

(31,261 posts)African Americans are big for the Democratic Party, but in red states where Blacks make up a big group of voters, maybe 25% vote regularly, the result is republicans get in office and implement voter suppression efforts to disenfranchise Blacks.
Steet protest are just theater, protest and maybe meet another protester that is in heat for the night to come. From a practical standpoint protests are as effective as a stopper jammed in a person's butthole is at ending constipation. Voting and getting people registered to vote count, anything else is bullshit and distraction.

(9,287 posts)So please dont project that feeling onto my statement. Did I say the Party should run the March?
No-I said are they listening? As in listening to our petition of grievances. I teach ESL as a volunteer to refugee immigrants and we just went though the 1st amendment. Hence the value of exercising our right to bring grievances to the swells who run this show. However, If my post implies the Party should run the ma ch-that is not what I meant.
I live in Pennsylvania and we have been gerrymandered and rethugs have suppressed our voices so yeah marches do matter for us who have been silenced by legislative fuckery.
Do I think the March will change the Pat the fat Cat Toomey-no. But it does keep us motivated through the times since , as Seneca said about living under Nero, we are dying everyday.
Peace
