Millenials: move away if you can. USA is over. We killed it.

America died tonight. Economic suicide adopted to feed the insatiable greed of donors, who have been refusing to dole out $ to GOP until they got their tax cuts. Voters fooled by propaganda and tribal hatred.

Combating their vote suppression, vote machine hacking and all their dirty tricks should be the DNC's priority as much as getting out our votes — a permanent, dedicated committee comprising attorneys, private investigators, fund raisers, social media and tradition media liaisons, volunteers, PR people to get the word out about our efforts to stop repug vote stealing.

After all, any votes we stop them from suppressing/stealing is a vote for us.

Again, this effort should be just as sustained as the GOTV effort.

I feel so powerless about it. Last night, I was calling Senators everywhere and leaving voicemails. What a waste of my time on a Friday night to closed offices. I was pissed that I couldn't get emails to my own senators, who are Dems. I wanted them to do something to delay the vote, or call attention to it, no matter how outrageous. Pile it up and burn it. Whatever, but protest, not just vote against it.

This bill will start an economic contraction. As the Federal Reserve throws trillions in cash into the markets in the futile attempt to stop it, hyperinflation will eventually be ignited. The unraveling of a reserve currency will have worldwide repercussions.

Negative interest rates, nor outright buying of equities by the Fed will stop the coming disaster.

No one likes Americans much these days and life in Ireland is not the answer. The problems abroad are just as big if not bigger than they are here in many respects.

Do not be fooled! Life is not a piece of cake elsewhere if you leave. It could well be much worse elsewhere and that is a fact as open arms are not there to greet and embrace any which one of us.

Sad state of affairs = the state of America these days!

On the wider point, the problems abroad (if you're talking about Western Europe & Canada) aren't anywhere near as big as a the US. They don't have to worry about healthcare, they don't worry about gun violence, they don't have leaders who are openly racist and bigoted. This idea that things are worse elsewhere just don't stand up to analysis.

Homeless people are in abundance and living on the streets sleeping in sleeping bags (if they are lucky enough to have one that is). The ruling gov't is very corrupt and many banks went bust and many lost everything (pensions, etc.) during the crash! Things are not improving. NO.

As for Europe as a whole, it cannot be addressed. You have over a dozen different countries and many of the people do not get along with one another and never have in this myriad of places.

I've traveled to many of these places in the past and fairly recently as well.

I have many friends living abroad so I hear it all and it is not all good, believe me! One Irish person I know that is a nurse recently left Ireland for a job in Dubai as there is no work for this person to be found in Ireland, none! Status before moving to Dubai was "broke". Period. Such is the story for far too many others.

No more help as it once was for the elderly (they used to take them to/from medical appts., got a good break on RX's, telephone for free, health care, etc.). It has been bought and sold basically.

Hello Angela Merkel, their new dictator!

They have plenty of racism and bigotry abroad. Do not be fooled!

Sat Dec 2, 2017, 02:08 PM
Dec 2017

Ireland has a population of 4.8 million, and at last count has 8,492 homeless people. Does that sound like a national crisis to you? As for corruption, they just had their deputy PM resign over a police whistleblower scandal. Transparency International run a Corruption Index based on perceptions of corruption in all countries around the world. The US comes in as the 18th best country, Ireland 19th (out of 176). Incidentally 12 of the 17 countries better than the US on the index are European.

As for the rest about Ireland, it's just bizarre I'm afraid. Ireland has full public healthcare, unemployment as of October was 6.1% (an 8 year low, Ireland was hit badly by the financial crisis). There has never in modern times been a time when the elderly were not helped, or where the sick were not cared for. There's been a lot of worry and complaints about service cuts due to the financial crisis, but those services still remain far higher than most people in the US would expect.

As for the rest of Europe, that comment about Angela Merkel is frankly offensive. Merkel is a decent person and democratically elected. The people of Europe largely get along just fine, as my friends from maybe a dozen different European countries can confirm as I write this from France.

It was once free but is not going to be free any longer if the politicians have their way!

Hospitals are filled with no empty places.

Need surgery? Wait for up to one year.

And no, I am not kidding.

I've got family over there and what I've been hearing is not so hot and almost all have left as is the history of Ireland it seems.

The era of the Celtic Tiger died several years ago.

I could live there myself if I cared to but the climate is too cold and no, they don't just "love" Americans these days. That sort of ended a long time ago and no, it is not France.

As for Merkel, no, they don't just love her over there. She wants to start up an EU Army and for a NEUTRAL country, this plan is going over like a pile of steaming shyte!

69. The stuff about healthcare can be a bit misleading
Sat Dec 2, 2017, 02:46 PM
Dec 2017

The UK has the same concerns (thanks to their asshole conservative government with their nonsensical 'austerity' policies), but you have to consider that long waiting times are bad, but the patients aren't paying for the treatment and the waiting times are usually highly unusual and heavily criticized. You can usually find examples of it happening, but what you'll never, ever find is cases where patients don't receive treatment because they can't afford it. They don't have cancer patients going bankrupt over healthcare costs, they don't have people fired because of illness, it's a very different world.

Re the EU army, a couple of points, firstly its still very much theoretical. It's something the EU would like to move ahead with as the threats from Russia increase, but even then they're talking about a seperate body and increasing cooperative training not the countries actually replacing their national armies. Considering they currently have 28 (soon to be 27) countries with largely different training and equipment, its a logical step and would be far more efficient. One of the main problems is that its not widely understood in Europe, and mistakenly seen as some desire for a more aggressive policy which isn't the concept at all.

It's also worth mentioning that a lot of the reason an EU army is even being discussed is because Europe is very quickly losing faith in America and its desire to work as an allied force to them. The damage Trump has done to US/European relations goes way beyond anything the American media have covered. Most people I know here look at America with sheer bewilderment now. Not just because Trump is president, but because they see half of voting Americans having voted for him and supporting him. That's difficult for them to understand, considering how utterly anathemic he is to European values.

Sat Dec 2, 2017, 02:19 PM
Dec 2017

Ever since the first President was elected, the pendulum started swinging. Reps voted out, Dems voted in. The pendulum keeps swinging and will swing back in our favor. I think many in our party mistakenly believed that it would never swing back to the other side, and when it did, some of us lost our minds. There will be another Democrat President and Congress. It's a mistake to think the pendulum will stop swinging once we get a majority.

There's a reason whoopi, joy, and all the others that actually could afford to move out of this country, didn't move out as they claimed they would. It's our home and it's worth fighting for, and overall, they like it here despite their claims they will move if they don't get their way politically.

So if we get another great leader like Obama, a majority in Congress, will they still want to leave? Will they still hate this country? Ask yourselves this. Are you going to let Trump cause/force you to leave this country? Not me. He isn't making me leave.

for quite awhile that anyone under the age of 40 should move to a 1st world country if possible; at least they'll get health care as a basic human right.

Where do we get all the money to just 'move to another country' with? Are we supposed to just leave all of our friends and family behind? How do we get a successful job in a new country with no connections or understanding of the culture? What if we don't know any languages other than English? That kinda limits one to Canada, UK, etc. Also, a lot countries actually DO have strict immigration policies and don't just let anybody in.

We elect democratic, and we can start kicking their asses to the curb! Trumps, DeVos, Kochs, Mercers, and Waltons are just a few who I'd like to see wearing orange jumpsuits!

The more the Republicans fell out of favor and used illegitimate methods to maintain their political grip, the more the US tilted toward the dark side. As yet, I do not believe that Democracy is dead as it has a very strong resilience (although if we do recover, it will be at a very great price to all of society). I do believe that a great indicator of how Democracy is doing, will be the outcome from the Mueller investigation and wait patiently to see what that will be.
