I thought the Bush years had brought the country to it's senses. I guess not.

(1,019 posts)come to terms with. I havent been able to get past it yet. The devastating, crushing heaviness of this concept is beyond comprehension. I too thought we barely survived W & Darth Cheney and that with President Obama that darkness was behind us;something we would be working to clean up and overcome for years. And then...

People often hit me a here on DU for daring to be critical of the Democratic Party. When you look at who we're up against, is it wrong to want Democrats to be ruthless (within the law) to beat these evil traitors?

(46,117 posts)though that was the underlying republican meme.
I knew they had their own agenda and they would ramp up their destruction once Obama left office.
It's about destroying democrats and democracy, not about a biracial president who had the temerity to run and win two terms in office.
Republicans are now empowered with passing the Tax Reform bill.
Think of what else they're planning to shove through the chambers.

(29,205 posts)If Hillary had won the primary in 2008...
Would she have picked Obama to be her VP?
Had she picked him, would he have run and won in 2016 against Jeb or Ted?
But then I wonder if Hillary was not able to defeat McCain...
And we might now have Sarah Palin as President?
And if that happened we would be right where we are now...

(841 posts)I don't get how people can see how badly the Republicans govern and then say "well let's give them another shot." A big part of it is the power of misinformation via the usual suspects (Fox News, talk radio, right-wing websites) plus ignorance and apathy. A lot of people don't care about politics very much so they hear "tax cuts" and think "I want lower taxes, that sounds good." I know plenty of Republicans who are like this. They don't really follow politics but just like the idea of tax cuts so they vote GOP. Then you have the racial and other culture war angles which is another piece of the puzzle.
