But the sole correct or acceptable response is still to throw off such government and provide new guards for our future security. If doing so by voting works, then great. I sincerely hope it does.
But fixing it by voting not working does not change our duty in the face of this undeniable reality.

We should not forget that, within the lifetime of my child who is not yet old enough to drive, we have voted them out.

When we did manage to fix some things, they lied to the American people about what we fixed to win control of state legislatures, redistricted to ensure that the minority of voters got the majority of representation, went on a voter suppression rampage, relentlessly dug in their heels to prevent us from fixing anything else they could by means of 632 filibusters, shut down the government, held the full faith and credit of the country hostage, stole a seat on our highest court, rigged an election in collusion with a foreign power, elected a president who lost the popular vote for the second time in two decades, and then set about breaking once more everything we did manage to fix, and then some.

And again, that was all within the part of life Americans just now coming of age to drive are old enough to remember.

I'm no right-winger, and an uprising is certainly no fantasy of mine.
But it is becoming ever clearer that one is demanded of us, no matter how much we may long to avoid it.
