if and when they get back both houses and Presidency. I don't want to hear excuses like you don't raise taxes in a recession blah blah blah. This bill must be repealed for the sake of this countries long term future.

(5,164 posts)How long it will take for things to go south such as people suffering and the economy tanking if the bill is passed into law as it is? My R house rep voted no because it will hurt people financially who voted for him in my county. Who knows what he will vote with the amendments etc or what they will do to change it and how he will vote then.

GOP eyes post-tax-cut changes to welfare, Medicare and Social Security
By Jeff Stein December 1 at 12:39 PM
High-ranking Republicans are hinting that, after their tax overhaul, the party intends to look at cutting spending on welfare, entitlement programs such as Social Security and Medicare, and other parts of the social safety net.
House Speaker Paul D. Ryan (R-Wis.) said recently that he wants Republicans to focus in 2018 on reducing spending on government programs. Last month, President Trump said welfare reform will take place right after taxes, very soon, very shortly after taxes.
As Republicans advocate spending cuts, they have frequently cited a need to reduce the national deficit while growing the economy.

(5,164 posts)If all of this is true. My father wasnt sure if they had voted against the amendment for removal of the aca mandate or not. They kept a lot of this concealed it seems and they were writing parts of the bill not long before the vote. I hope that this is going to affect 2018 elections. Thats the only hope now maybe.

(841 posts)Or they get their information from biased sources that will provide scapegoats for people. I remember when conservatives tried to blame minority homeowners for the Great Recession and sure enough I know some people who bought that line.
That is why it is important for Democrats and allies to be very forceful and explicit about how this bill hurts people. No waffling. There are definitely some people out there who can be brought to our side over this.
Sadly, some people are so brainwashed that even if the Republicans literally threw them into a wood chipper they would go to their doom blaming the Democrats, liberals, college students, blacks, feminists, Muslims or whoever their favorite scapegoat is.
Youre right about a lot of these people unfortunately. Im hoping immediate suffering would have to sway them in some way, at least those who still have the ability to think for themselves on any level.

They are destroying our Federal government right before our eyes.
