But when, besides the time during and right after the Civil War, have the Republicans ever been a party that could be believed in? I mean sure, if you were rich, they could always be counted on to have your interests at heart, but really, for the average, working, middle income, or poor person, when have the Republicans ever been an ally.

After Eisenhower was Nixon, then Reagan (Ford was just a blip), then the Bush's. How could a party that elected Eisenhower elect those other candidates?
