Roy Moore vows to 'take off the gloves' in the final weeks of Senate campaign

By Michael Scherer November 27 at 9:25 PM

HENAGAR, Ala.— Casting his campaign as a “spiritual battle” against “the immorality of our time,” Alabama Republican Roy Moore vowed Monday to “take off the gloves” in the final weeks of his Senate race so he can establish a clear contrast with his Democratic opponent.

“I’m a fighter. I don’t hesitate to say that. I’ve been that way my whole life,” Moore told more than 100 supporters at his first public event since Nov. 16. “My opponent will allow our Constitution to be totally undermined and disregarded. And I oppose that.”

Moore’s campaign has been rocked by accusations from local women who have come forward over the past month to say he treated them inappropriately, including a woman who says he touched her sexually when she was 14 and he was 32. Moore, 70, has denied any sexual misconduct, while saying he may have dated teenagers in his 30s.

National Republican leaders, with the exception of President Trump, have dropped support for Moore, with many, including Sen. Richard C. Shelby (Ala.), Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.), describing the allegations as credible.

Colonel Busby, not actually out to protect nubile young victims, though, a subject which he claims indifference to, but on being told it was too late to toss his hat in the race.

I watched an interview. His eyes, which were all over the place, need some of that Marine discipline, but he actually didn't come off badly at all. Something of a renaissance man, belying an Alabama accent far heavier than that of our extended relative who's also a retired colonel from Alabama (Air Force, though, so maybe that's something to do with it?).

"In the military, we say a warrior dies twice," Busby said. "The first time is when he draws his last breath, and the second time is when someone speaks his name for the last time." Sculptor Busby on his favorite choice of subjects.

And why would any DU observer assume a politician was indifferent because he's trying to direct conversation in directions that could get him elected? Away from Moore's already too-household a name instead of circling him like a media cyclone?

I'm guessing a bunch of 'Bamans who thought they weren't going to vote are going to grab onto this guy like a lifeline. Depending on how much Moore and his creepy billionaire enabler, Richard Uihlein, can trash him in 2 weeks of course.

What's interesting to me is who this elects. Hard to imagine cons were going to vote Democrat for Doug Jones pre-Busby. Surely more than that just weren't going to vote. Does that mean this guy'll split the Republican vote disastrously or bring it out enthusiastically to the polls?

Obviously up to the victims to share these - but considering his track record - there has to be a damning photo somewhere!

He’s going to deflect from his assault allegations by playing the victim and suggesting that this is all somehow an attack on his “faith”...he knows his base, he knows they’ve been taught to believe that the “outside world” is dead set on attacking their beliefs, and he will play their paranoia like a fiddle. Fucking disgusting!

He wants God in government. He wants to control women. He wants no separation of church and state so he can preach from the Senate floor. He believes in the diminishing of any non-Christian religion and removing the equal rights of non-Christian people and anyone who doesn't live their lives according to his self-serving perversion of Christianity.

I want ALL of that on full display and I want Jones to chase him around demanding a debate that gets nationally televised and shows him for the American Sharia cult leader he really is.

Or is he just going to run around to his "safe places" and announce that he knows what's best for everyone because he started out in life privileged to be white and fairly well off, and thinks he has a personal relationship with the Gawd Almighty he made up in his head.
It's easy to stand up for a "word" or a "religion". Religion is a concept - a form of self-justification that can take any shape the believer wants it to. In itself, it doesn't take action - without believers - by itself - it has no physical impact or responsibilities in in the world. Without believers or enforcers, it is nothing. It is supernatural in the actual definition of the word - religion is outside of nature or anything that is evidential. There needs be no logic with religion or religious practices - it is whatever the practitioner wants it to be.
It's especially easy to strut around and stand up for whatever you want when you're in the position to make or enforce law without any repercussions.

Precious little bullying snowflake that Moore is, it's pretty damn obvious he doesn't take any risks unless he can hide behind something bigger and more powerful than he is.

If he won't debate his opponent, if he can't argue for or justify in front of an open court of opinion his positions, he's not fighting. He's just an empty pontificator who bought his way into power.
