General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI don't give a good god damn if Senator Warren has a drop of Native blood....
What Dipshit Donnie did today was fling a racial slur in the presence of Native American heroes while representing the Office of the President.
Done. End of rant.
(FWIW, I DO have several drops of Creek in my blood and those drops are joined with the drops from all over my history and are boiling about this.)

(1,803 posts)Was the fact that Trump stood at a podium in front of a portrait of Andrew Jackson, who was an advocate of Indian removal, was a well-know Indian fighter responsible for killing countless native Americans, and as President signed the Indian Removal Act, which resulted in the infamous Trail of Tears.

Unbeknownst to RWers, I pretty sure even in their ancestry they have Indian DNA. Ignorant runs extremely deep in their train of thought.

(52,791 posts)Eight "Greats" back (Which would put it in the 1600's I think) There was a Wampanoag (Pokanoket) woman who's "Christian name" was Alice and her family name was Sessetom who married one of my ancestors.
I have always considered that bit of family history fascinating and I wish I knew the particulars. I'd like to think it was a genuine marriage, although I know there is the possibility that it wasn't.

God! Even I have native American in me! It's funny really, but MOST southerners have native American blood running through them. I am quite proud of that fact.
A Brand New World
(1,119 posts)When I did research on my family tree, I didn't see any signs of that but I have no reason to doubt my grandmother's word. And she is no longer alive to question further. The same thing could have happened with Senator Warren. Verbal family history may or may not be 100% accurate but not for nefarious purposes.

(30,540 posts)for years the rumor was that we were part Native American and we looked it too. When anyone asked our nationality they said "you've got to be Native American" and we said "yes" ... WRONG. We thought we were but recently my brother traced the family back hundreds of years and not one drop of Native American, we're totally Anglo Saxon. We honestly thought were but at least we never used a fake name like Drumpf (or whatever it is).

(5,106 posts)of Native American votes to get elected in Massachusetts. If she runs for national office, the Native American votes throughout the country will put her way over the top. Hardly fair compared to the small number of German American votes, which might not all go for Trump, so NOT fair to him. Sad.

(291 posts)lots of people with a great grandparent somewhere that was Indian. Not a big deal around here. Maybe in Manhattan it is, when people say their grandfather or great grandfather was Indian, I just take them at their word, not a biggie. And yes, many do not look Indian at all.

(808 posts)Both my brother and my dna tests, very similar results, very Scandanavian and Northern European. I had my done a second time by another company, same results. After several of year searching, trying to run down my maternal great grand father in the records of the Native Americans in Oklahoma, nada, zero trace of him in any reliable source documents.

According to legend, he invited all those with claims to kingship to a feast on a grand platform, liquored them up, then knocked out the supports. They fell onto spikes concealed below the stage.
I know this because I'm also descended from Kenneth MacAlpin. Yes, we're cousins.

(2,596 posts)I haven't been able to trace that through Ancestry at this point to see where the intersection occurred. My maternal grandparents were both from Alabama and migrated to Texas and into Oklahoma during the early to mid-1800s. Not one of my parents or grandparents had brown eyes, and that's not at all uncommon over time. They didn't look (to me) a bit as if there might have been native American blood running through the family tree, though when I look at photographs of my grandfather (maternal), his eyes have a slightly Asian, almond-shape to them (and Asians migrated - purportedly - from the land bridge from Asia and Siberia many thousands of years ago and populated the North American continent becoming the various "indigenous" tribes that the early Europeans found here when they began their explorations and discovery of the North American continent).
I've known many people whose ancestors were from Oklahoma and they maintained that they themselves had native blood in their family bloodline even though they didn't have the appearance of having it. I do not disbelieve Senator Warren at all. I don't know whether she's had her DNA tested to discover if this is true or not, but you better bet that if her parents or grandparents told her this or it was part of the family "lore" that everyone has, including my own, they believed it to be true based on oral history if not written documentation. For Trump to keep pejoratively calling her Pochahontas is an insult to the actual woman and to the native population at large, and I wouldn't put it past him that he intended it as an intentional sideswipe to the men present, the native American people as a whole, and Elizabeth Warren for purely partisan dog whistle politics. Disgusting.

(4,558 posts)He was not elected by the majority of the people.
His campaign was in collusion with a hostile foreign government.
He has neglected the emergency disaster needs of Puerto Ricans, and Californians as partisan punishment.
He has taken no steps, at all, to address the worst and 4th worst mass shootings in the nations history. Hell, he has refused to even call these shootings acts of terror.
He has used the bully pulpit of the presidency to engage in childish attacks on private citizens, the free press, members of congress (both within and outside of his party).
He has been accused of sexual assault/sexual misconduct by no less than 19 women, and an investigation by his party, which is in majority, has not even been initiated.
He is the illegitimate president of the US.

(34,085 posts)without implying there is something inherently bad about being within that class. That applies whether or not Warren is a Native American.
It is the same drum I've been banging about using gay or transgender as an insult to Trump, et al. I hope you have better luck making the point as to Native Americans.

(14,175 posts)...through a failed attempt to call out a Democrat as a racist. Isn't that what they implied by ridiculing her claim by teasing her with a nickname like that? That she was disrespecting native americans by being glib about her unfounded claims to look more.....I don't know....diverse? To make her ancestry more colorful? I really sometimes don't think even Republicans think through these insults.
