https://www.thedailybeast.com/prince-harry-and-meghan-markle-to-marry-in-springAfter a weekend of frenzied speculation, it was announced this morning that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will marry in the spring of next year.
The couple will live in London at Nottingham Cottage, Harry's home in the grounds of Kensington Palace.
arkle is a divorcee. She is 36 and Harry is 33. But it is the fact that she identifies as mixed race (she is the daughter of a white father and an African-American mother) that will mark the most notable step forward for the hitherto all-white British Royal family.
Theoretically, (but most unlikely) an american (Harry's child) could wind up ruling the british royal family!
The brits have gotta be piiiiiiiiised!!!!!

(44,974 posts)All these children would inherit the throne prior to Harry and any offspring he might have.
So I have good thoughts for Harry...he looks organized, peaceful and happy.
history is full of kings and queens who were seemingly "not close to the throne." Granted, they don't off large swaths of their families these days in order to BECOME closer to the throne, but never say never!

(12,424 posts)We see hate being the common denominator....I believe we need more people like the British Royals to lead the way away from hate, by example.

(7,250 posts)if you'll apply the same benchmark for the Mail comment section on any issue!
In my experience, those DUers who bother to comment on the doings of the royal family are much more royalist than the folks I as a Brit living in the UK encounter every day.
On the other hand, if this gets the right-wingers in the Mail's comment section and elsewhere frothing and spitting, maybe it'll hasten their demises, so I'm cool with that, and I'll raise a glass to the happy couple on that basis.

(15,543 posts)...eventually.
People falling in love with each other - no matter their color, nationality, or belief system - and bringing children into the world out of their love, will eventually render racism as a skanky, stanky, pititful, degenerate, anacronistic, immoral mindkink for just a handful of remaining lowlife, fear-saturated morons.
How many decades or centuries will this process take? republicans are doing their best to empower hateful racism. But inevitably they will be revealed as losers.

(10,952 posts)to their wedding. Michelle has worked with Prince Harry on the Invictus Games and appear to have a friendly relationship.
As a bonus, it would burn Trump in the worst way to be left out of the cool kids table once again.

I'm an immigrant with dual citizenship. My son, born here, is American.
That's the reality.

(5,611 posts)As in the Jennifer Beals circa Flashdance (Beals was also excellent in the L Word, and she is still a gorgeous woman now in her fifties). Beals also has a white father and African-American mother as does the English actress Rebecca Hall whose mother is African-American. All beautiful indeed. I also admire Meghans extensive philanthropic work. She will be a great wife for Harry as so many of the royal duties involve work with charities, and she is clearly not only capable of participating in these tasks but taking it to a whole new level. I am also happy to see the deplorables going out of their minds over this...

(101,347 posts)would be nearer the mark: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charlotte_of_Mecklenburg-Strelitz#Ancestry
" Queen Charlotte's African contribution could have been inherited three to six times over from one ancestor nine generations removed, Margarida de Castro e Sousa, a 15th-century Portuguese noblewoman, who traced her ancestry to King Afonso III of Portugal (12101279) and one of his mistresses, Madragana "
At nine generations back, you have 512 ancestors if none of the branches ever rejoined. So even if it's 6 times, that's about 1% of her ancestry - from someone who was herself 6 generations from the 'Moorish' Madragana.

(65,458 posts)a way that would be considered black by most people. According to many articles I've seen, the paintings that did not disguise features that manifested her African ancestry were kept tucked away, while those that "whitewashed" her were displayed prominently.
It's hard to know for sure now, but I would not be surprised if she did not look as lily white as the current members of the royal family do.
muriel_volestrangler
(101,347 posts)it would seem far more likely that those paintings just weren't very accurate. Which, of course, might explain why they weren't the ones displayed.
