Ian Fleming was a WW II spy, not a barkeep. The shaken, not stirred was a literary device, not a barkeep's recipe.
Unfortunately, there is a whole generation or more of people who think shaking is good for martinis.
Bad, James Bond. Very bad.
Rule on shaking or stirring: if it is all booze (martini, manhattan, etc.) stir it -- you do not want bubbles in the drink, therefore you should not aerate it by shaking. All such drinks should be presented crystal clear, with no aeration. BTW, they should be served as cold as can be, with no ice. I freeze my gin and refrigerate the vermouth. Do not forget the dash of bitters. Garnish, or not, per taste.
If the drink has some sort of juice, like a bloody Mary, shake away. You can't hurt it and the texture improves as well.
Don't confuse fictional literature with real mixology.
